what the hell do mean i am not a krauter? i dont think i listed and performance stuff. as for the body filler, it is just to fill the pits. it is not rusted thru. just surface rust that i took to bare metal and need to fill the pits to smooth the body.

Ya, you betcha. I used to smoke my friends camaros and mustangs in high school with that thing. It was fun. Ya ever see a VW do a 2 minute burnout.?Originally posted by capridrifter......and dude you are NOT a Krauter. That stuff you listed is performance stuff!
Ya ever 360 a speedometer before.?
Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt. Of course, in hindsight, a rather stupid thing to do. One blowout, or wheel bearing fubar, and you are dead meat in that tin can. It was cool to see Jesse James do one on his show. It brought back memories. I did that 25 years ago. And to think, it was my Dad's idea for me to get a VW for my first car so I would be safe in a slow car. Yea, that kinda backfired.
In fact, I'm thinking about bringing her back alive on Sunday. I just got fresh license plates for her on Wednesday.
Unless the sofa gnomes get me. They tend to do that on Sundays.Last edited by Enigma; 10-06-2006, 04:57 AM.

get the wire wheel for the hand grinder. Thing works fabulous. Takes all the rust off, including in the pits, but doesn't take any excess of metal away like a grinding disc will.

we were just using a grinder with no presser..............
and if you have to fill in holes do it right and use patch pannels :welder: and NOT fibreglass it drives me NUTS to see that ...it's like puting Duct tape over busted lights and bumper covers AAarrg:nonono: :nonono:

Wire brush won't get the rust out of the pits. It will knock loose the surface rust but it won't get it good and clean.

for me the door jams were getting a little rust so I usually just sand it down then sprayed undercoat in. there as for sanding it down it works but I would do what zack says use a grinder.

In all honesty I would take a grinder to it then por-15 it, then body filler. A wire brush can just shine the rust to appear that is is gone. A grinder would be your best bet. Other then that it looks like it would be fine.

simple rust repair question...
i know that i am gonna wire brush the rust, sand it, us e some por-15, and body filler to smooth it. i have som spots that stand out on Deuce. he has a spot by the fuel filler door, and a scrape w/ no rust on the pass. door. along the seems on the doors are also showing rust. i plan on wire brushing, sanding, some por-15, body filler, more sanding, and than primering. does thai sound right? it is all surface w/ no rust thru. i am gonna have to wait w/ a more aggressive look by shooting the grille w/ whitefor a sportier look. i need to do some motor work asap so that i dont ruin his engine. i plan on getting him looking good so i can take him out once in a while and enjoy nebraska driving on the open roads. cant stand it seeing him sitting there.Tags: None
