Opinions on saving a paint job...

Can that be saved with a good buffing or anything? I'd rather not have to repaint any time soon. It doesn't have to look perfect, but if I can eliminate or at least reduce the fading it'd be great.

Let me know what you think, please- I'm open to any ideas.

No. Once the clear coat it peeling or gone, the game is up. Hence why I prefer enamel paint. Nothing you do will bring it back to an even remotely original look. You will have to repaint it to get it back up to par.

Okay. I may just try to sand it to be uniform, then. Final goal will be flat navy blue with flames... and that may be sooner than later, considering the father of a new friend of mine does paint work. He could most likely help me eliminate a lot of chrome and get it prepped for a simple spray job. I don't want anything fancy.

I just took care of the same problem on my Ranger. The clear was mostly gone, and in spots the paint was down to primer on the hood and roof. I just did a quick sanding, 1 coat of black primer, and a couple of coats of hot rod black paint. Makes it look decent until whatever is decided for a paint job.
On yours, I'd tape off at the pinstripe, and paint everything above a flat black. It'll look decent until you decide what to do. Hell you might like it and keep it that way.

I've seen a 95-97 TC blacked out, thing looked evil. Never seen a box towncar in more than stock black paint.
