    Bumper mods????

I'm trying to decide which mods to do for the bumpers on my El Strippo LTD.

I was watching an episode of Overhaulin and sitting in the background in the shop they were working in was a camaro:nonono:. Yes I know.:nonono: :nonono: I think it was like an 80 or 81 but it had the stock bumper(below the nose ) removed and had a huge fabricated sheetmetal airdam setup on it. It was very simple but looked pretty cool to me. This got me to thinking(yes very dangerous ) I thought something like that would look cool on the LTD.

Option #1(more work but cooler looking and much lighter )

So to describe this a little better it would resemble a Nascar version of the stock bumper with an airdam added and a couple screened grill areas(about twice as tall as the stock ones ).

The stock front bumper would be completely removed. A round piece of steel tube would be mounted to the original bumper mounts for a crash bar. Then I'd fabricate a sheetmetal version of the top 1/3 to 1/2 of the stock front bumper(but it would only stick out half as much as the original). Then from there down would be the air dam. It will be a total height of about 2-2 1/2 times the height of the stock bumper(depending on the ride height of the car ).

    Option #2

I'd gut the the stock bumper(remove the stock grill inserts, Bumper gaurds, and inner crash bumper ). Make a pair of mounting brackets to mount the bumper skin. Then add a sheetmetal airdam to the stock bumper shell.

    Option #3

    Stock bumper gutted, no airdam.

I know some of you won't like the idea of the airdamn but it just fits with my design for the car. It's going to look mean!!

I've got the metal fabrication skills. And I'm working on building a small english wheel which will help. I'll have to wait until I pick up another welder because I'll have to build it in sections and then weld it all together.

It's a no go on the header panel/bumper assembly. I like the looks of the stock header panel(with everything blacked out ).

Just gut the bumper and suck it back like fordinator did. It looks really clean tucked up against the body.

If I use the stock bumper it's getting cut up. I want to narrow it up so it doesn't look so wide. It sticks out to far from the fenders. And that will let me chuck all the crappy filler pieces.

But I still like the idea of the airdam. So if I use the stock bumper I'll most likely add an airdam to the bumper.

This gives you a little idea of what the aridam would look like. Not much detail in the pic but you get the idea. I think it really adds to the boxiness of the whole car.

If it's going to be called rice then I might as well just go with the full wide body setup. Go with full flared fenders and 1/4's. If it's going to be rice it'll be all american fucking wild rice!:thefinge:

Looked like an 80's nascar monte. Are you running this on a dirt track?

I want it to look like it would if they ran a 2dr LTD in Nascar in 1979-1982.

This is a street car that will be used for cruising, drag racing, maybe some auto-X, And when it's completely finished I want to haul it out west and run it in the Silver State Challenge. http://www.silverstateclassic.com

Ive always wanted one. Also, a rear valence with dual exhaust cutouts, and "grand marquis gt" in mustang GT font.
