If that 305 is high mileage, I'd hold off on doing anything beyond those headers and the carb/intake you have, save the expensive engine parts for a fresh 350, then it'll really scoot.

Those Ultraflows sounded great, but honestly they need to be on a higher HP engine to get the true sound out of them. 302's are just not loud, lol. They'd probably sound good on that 305 though. For now I'm going to run the glasspacks and dumps that are on it, but I'll have them throw on an h-pipe too.
I eventually want Aerochambers, I have one on my 3400 swap Beretta and it just sounds amazing. They sound badass on beefed up V8's too. But I also want to hear those glasspacks with a nice cam behind them...

You should paint "Slow 5.0" on the valve covers, like Mustang guys do.
Also I remember the vid you had on the 85 with Ultraflo's, it sounded good. I think because you dumped it under the car is why it droned, out the back with the 3" tips it probably would've been quiet inside. My car with duals and no mufflers isn't loud in the car at all, but mine is also stock exhaust just minus mufflers.
I have a pair of Aerochambers, 2.5" offset I got for my old 87 LX but sold it before I put them on and the guy didn't want them. Now I need to sell them or figure out a use for them.
Anyways with those headers are you making all new exhaust to go with them? If so I've got a set of Aerochambers I'll sell you

The valve covers are being blasted and cleared to match the Holley intake, I can't wait to see how they'll look! The headers are stainless steel, and came with metals gaskets and flanges for $120 shipped! Why must it be so cold out?!

I remember when I had Dynomax Ultra Flows on my 302... Worst. Drone. Ever. But it sounded beautiful!
Another awesome muffler is the Hooker Aero Chamber. They have the chambered throatiness at idle, but that aggressiveness of a glasspack under heavier throttle. Definitely quieter than a Magnaflow too, lol. Dynomax Super Turbo? Very quiet for a performance muffler, but awesome flow!

Glasspacks, at least perforated cores, flow about as well as any muffler you can buy. Sure after a few weeks it gets so loud it's like it's not there, but I'd rather have one than a Flowmaster. I put off-brand Flows on my C10 replacing Red Hots, and it made so much drone it was unreal, it was like a 12" sub constantly hitting, it was pretty much undriveable. The glasspacks were overall louder outside but they were a ton quieter inside the truck.
I'm considering replacing the 18" Magnaflow on my truck, since it has no cat it's pretty loud. I may try a Dynomax Super Turbo, those are supposed to be quiet but flow very well, the next best thing to straight through, and they're cheap for what you get.

Chevy small blocks just sound better in general than Ford small blocks, never really could figure out why they sound so much different! Eventually I may upgrade away from glasspacks, but they'll do for now.
And Packman you're right, the 305 is just a 305... And a turd of a small block too, haha. It's not much quicker than my CFI '85 was!

I've gotten a few compliments on my truck's exhaust sound, people think it's a 350. A lot of guys who run Flowmaster like the sound, since I went Magnaflow and most guys only know of Flowmaster and Cherry Bomb. It's dirt slow, but runs great. I need to do some work on my transmission like throwout bearing, shift forks and maybe clutch plate, otherwise the transmission will die long before the engine. I hope I can get the trans to last just as long, but I'm afraid the 305 is too strong.

Broken record response: the 305 sbc in my Malibu was one of the baddest sounding engines that I owned. For a nearly stock small block, it sounded like I mod'd the crap out of that engine. Open headers on Friday nights coming home from work was a trip! With that said, a 305, is just a 305. Get that big block!

I don't think it's a Quadrajet remake... It's a late 60's factory Chrysler 1850 list 600cfm, so it's more than likely a 4160.Last edited by murphmobile2; 01-16-2015, 06:14 PM.

I like my 4Runner, it's like a Jeep only it's reliable.
Seriously, my dad had an 03 Grand Cherokee 4.7 he bought from my uncle, it had less than 100,000 miles on it and the transmission already couldn't hold a gear at certain speeds like around 45mph. That plus a lot of electronics that would randomly crap themselves (typical Chrysler, my T&C has tons of electrical gremlins) made me not like it as much as my 4Runner. At the time I loved it, but it had a more harsh ride, more cramped interior and less power. The VVT-i 4.7 in my 4Runner hauls ass, has more hp and tq than the 4.7 HO in the Grand Cherokee and gets a lot better mileage. I don't mind the GC but I like the 4Runner more, and also my mother-in-law's Xterra 4.0, that's a nice ride too.
Getting back to the Caprice, is that Holley carb one of their Q-Jet remakes? I've never had anything with one, but carbed SBC guys swear they run best with a Q-Jet. I thought my Edelbrock ran fine, 600cfm vacuum seconary, but I have nothing to compare it to. I can tell you a friend of mine with his 85 GT engined Fairmont uses that same Edelbrock Performer carb, says it runs just as well as the old stock Holley 4180.
