    Window Died Again

I'm having a problem with my Grand Marquis (86/ Coupe). I had the motors replaced at the end of June when the drivers window motor finally quit. They've both worked alright since despite the fact that each window has some play in it. Yesterday the drivers window stopped working. When you push the switch to move it down nothing happens, except all it drains all the power from the car (Dims all lights, kills clock and radio, and the idle changes). I just held it for a second because I'm thinking the regulator is jammed and if I hold the switch it'll burn up the new motor. Now my problem is trying to find replacement regulators for both sides, ideally new ones. I tried Teamfordparts and ebay, Partstrain, and many others and no luck. Three dealershiops tried a nationwide locator and said they were unavailable/ obselete. So does anyone have any advice or suggestions about what they think is wrong or where I might find the parts. I haven't pulled the door panel yet to see and will update soon. Thanks in adavance.

Okay, pulled the door panel and had a look at things. From what I can see, nothing is jammed or caught in the regulator and the gear teeth all look fine to me. Gonna bring it to the shop tomorrow and have them see if its the motor that went (not a motorcraft, but was new).

I have never heard of a new window motor in these cars working worth a shit for more than a few months. Re-building old motors with new gears is the way to go.

Yea, I agree the replacement motors arent working out so great. I should have gone with motorcraft. Gonna drop the car at the shop monday and have them take a look and see if it is the motor. If they were to replace the defective one they'd have to order another which takes a couple days. I'll probably just wind up tracking down a new motorcraft one. Oddly the motocraft door actuator I waited weeks to get works very poorly. It's NOS from the 90's and barely has enough strength to unlock the door unless you hit it a few times, unless the car is on of course, go figure.

Maybe in the end I'll just rebuild a set of Motorcraft ones myself. Crank windows and definitely less work, but to me power is much more convenient and worth all the hassle.

Only motor in my car I've had any trouble with is the Ford reman one. The other 3 are original and work perfectly.

the plastic gears arent the only parts go bad - the brushes in the motor wear out too. You can replace those with decent junkyard ones.

The one motor i rebiult both ways quit 2 years later, and was all corroded inside. I think the key is to seal them back up well afterwards maybe with sillicone, so water doesnt get in. I replced mine with a rebiult and its noisy

Have an update on the window problem. Was getting ready to drop the car off tomorrow and have the guy try and find out why the motor siezed when my dad asked to go have a look at it. The door panel was off already and within a minute of poking around it was fixed. The problem was the new motor came with some sort of an extension plug that just lengthens the feed to the motor. Problem is the extra slack that got tucked into the door got pinched in the regulator. The damaged extension was tossed as it was not needed to begin with. Window works fine again, just want to regrease everything before i put everything back on.

My front driver side is dying, used to be it wouldn't roll down by itself, but now it does it both going up and down. Fucking things.
