The easier and safer way to do that it to jack the other side of the axle up. It makes the opposite side drop.

I tried the lifting one side of my rear axle up to get the coil out, but no workie. Had it so high it was lifting car off the jack stand. Left came out, but the right one said, nope ain't gonna do it. That was after I installed the rear sway bar, before that they came out easily.

You have to d/c the rear bar to get the axle to move well...

Also, the suspension forum was a BIG success on several levels, and I would like to thank mrltd for his suggestion...

Everyones suggestions are definately what make GMN a better place, time and time again...

What I figured, but I was able to get the shock off with it in the way.
FYI anyone that does the shocks on these. Vice grip the bolt on top and Crescent wrench the top of the shock. Works like a dream.
Helps if you have a rust free undercarriage like I do.
