Also, if you want a DD that can haul ass, you'll need a lot more than a HO/Explorer swap. Any modern econobox or pickup will blow that doors off a HO/Explorer swapped box.

      Between the 5.0s

I was under the impression that you could squeeze decent power out of the 302 with good heads, a cam and good air flow? Forgive me, I'm still learning about the SBF, I'm more of a LIMA 2.3 Turbo guy.

The pushrod 5.0 isn't the great modern powerhouse that it once had the reputation to be, but can still do well. It's really a 1962 design - engine tech has come a long way since then.

Many people are happy campers with HO conversions or exploder swaps. If you are going to daily it, I'd suggest the SEFI transplant on the existing engine. Use an HO throttle body, upper intake and bored egr spacer so you can use it later. Get the bugs worked out of that swap, then upgrade from there.

The only way you will have an HO swap into that car and be done in a weekend is to do the E6/E7 head HO swap, have an SEFI wire harness on the engine already, newer headers with dual O2 sensors mounted (CFI only has one IIRC) and use an appropriate HO Speed Density computer. You would need to swap out the trans as well for a later (89+ preferred) trans and put the HO (hi-rev) governor in it. You might be able to get away with just putting the hi-rev governor in your trans, but you will probably want a higher stall torque converter for an HO engine as it's torque doesn't really come in until 2500 RPM unlike the lopo engine which comes on at like 1400 or something obnoxiously low.

Edited because I forgot some stuff.

Good news, gentlemen. I have located a donor car. An 89 Grand Marquis with a bad transmission. What do I need to pull off of it to have a working SEFI on my 84?

Also, took some more pictures of the car during the day this time. AND miraculously the driver's window works now after lowering the idle, I don't know how either.
