nah... aero has that big honking 4.6L V8 moulded plastic POS on top of the engine. looks more like a marauder intake hose and box. Unless it's a PI version.
and yes... I know about the piston heads. This is why I won't be putting any blower/turbo/nitrous on it without changing the pistons first. Fat intake and dual exhaust is plenty with this motor.

Hyper pistons are not nearly as weak or problematic as they are made out to be. OK, not as tough as the forged pistons they replaced, but not nearly as shitty as lopo pistons are. Lots of people run a 100 shot on hyper pistons without any problems. NA, you'll never break one unless you do really dumb things with the engine.
and +1 on bringing it to Scottfest next week86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I have other plans for next week... plus drive from here to there is a 3 day hump for one person. My 3 day weekend won't accommodate the drive to AND from.
And yeah... already knew about the not quite as tough but tougher than the cast crap.

yes and no. it sprung a coolant leak on the way home. Looks like lower intake gasket to the driver side head. there's gas in the oil so probably a leaky/busted injector and a vacuum leak in the headlight covers (check valve probably). Looks like I get to tear it down some before I can really get to enjoy it. So an oil change... more coolant... and some gaskets... probably about $100 and I can start really enjoying it.
I'll take pics tomorrow... been at my uncle's all day since we got back with the car and I'm pretty tired... not to mention the fact I couldn't sleep after 5am this morning and I'm used to sleeping until at least 6 or 7.Last edited by sly; 07-31-2010, 09:47 PM.

ok... upon closer inspection... it's the water pump leaking. it's leaking from the rear hole and pooling on whatever that spacer is that the timing chain is under. So water pump... and probably an open injector. Time to pull plugs and see which one is caked.

also found that the PCV was gutted... installed a new PCV. Think I need to take the valve cover off and check for the guts? Also... could this explain the gas in the oil smell?
I've got the accessories off of the water pump (the alt/steering-pump are still haning on the bolts until I get ready to finish the job) and taking a break. [rant]I hate one piece fan shrouds! I have half a mind to cut the half way point down the sides and put some speed clips on them to hold them together.[/rant]

is there a pcv screen in there?

Is there a connection from the valve cover to the throttle body for fresh air intake? If not, you effectively have a vacuum leak. Mass air systems require that all air suck through the MAF, including the air the PCV draws through the motor. It can screw with the fuel mix if thats not hooked up, though truthfully I don't know exactly how much it matters. My usual suggestion is to put the engine plumbing to stock configuration as a starting point, and change things from there.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

The PCV is on the oil filler cap, not the back of the intake. There is no screen. The old PCV didn't have the valve portion actually in it (was hollow). Since I don't know if the original engine swap left that hollow or if it fell out into the oil fill hole... I'm not sure. I don't think there's anything it can truly hurt though if it is in there. A new PCV valve is in though.
Edit: I just looked for the heck of it in the oil filler and there's nothing in there and no way for a chunk of anything that large to make it past the metal there. so there's no problem with the PCV core being inside the valve cover.Last edited by sly; 08-02-2010, 10:48 PM.
