    Fan Motor Issus

    I was using my heater late night in the HPP & it toke a sh*t on me as I was heading home & today I tried it again this morning & tonight nothing was happening so I called up some whale owners & its also happed to them too so if anbody can give me a hand here & Scott I just PMed u w/this problem & if your reading this post plz get back w/ me asap thx.........

    Are you getting heat and no blow or blow and no heat ?

    If No Blow:

    Do you get high only ? Then its the resistor,as the blower resistor get bypassed for high speed.

    Do you get NO blow at all ? Then its the blower motor it self OR the wiring to the resistor has melted.

    Do you get cold and good fan speed ? Then you wanna check out the blend door actuator. Its under the dash. It just sends air over the heater core or the A/C.

    Oh hell, I'll let Ford explain it.

    Air Conditioning System—Manual A/C-Heater

    Inspection and Verification

    Verify the customer's concern by operating the manual A/C-heater controls to duplicate the condition.

    Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:



    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Mechanical Electrical
    Broken or leaking vacuum control motor.
    Broken A/C-heater function selector switch.
    Blown fuse.
    Fuse junction panel
    Fuse 5 (15A)
    Fuse 9 (30A)
    Heater blower motor switch inoperative.
    Circuitry open/shorted.
    A/C control inoperative.
    A/C electronic blend door actuator inoperative.



    If inspection reveals obvious concerns which can be readily identified, service as required.

    If the concern(s) remain after the inspection, determine the symptom(s) and go to the Symptom Chart.


    Symptom Chart — Manual A/C Heater System

    Pinpoint Tests

    Refer to the Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual for the connector numbers cited in the pinpoint tests.

    Use Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent to perform diagnosis.

    PINPOINT TEST A: A/C ELECTRONIC BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR INOPERATIVE, INTERMITTENT OR IMPROPER OPERATION

    A1 CHECK MANUAL A/C ELECTRONIC BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR SYSTEM
    Start vehicle and run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
    Turn to MAX A/C.
    Turn temperature adjust knob to full COOL and check for cool discharge air.
    Turn temperature adjust knob to full WARM and check for warm discharge air.
    Vary temperature adjust knob from full WARM to full COOL.
    Does air temperature change?
    Yes No
    System is operating properly at this time. CHECK for intermittent condition. GO to A2 .

    A2 CHECK MANUAL A/C ELECTRONIC BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR SYSTEM FUSE
    Check RUN Fuse 5 (15A) at fuse junction panel.
    Is fuse good?
    Yes No
    GO to A3 . REPLACE RUN Fuse 5 (15A) and GO to A1 .
    NOTE: If fuse opens again, check for shorts to ground in Circuit 298 (P/O) wire (GO to A3 ) and SERVICE as needed.




    A3 CHECK MANUAL A/C ELECTRONIC BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR SUPPLY VOLTAGE
    Disconnect A/C electronic blend door actuator 8-pin connector C282 .
    Using a voltmeter, check for B+ between Pin C282 , Circuit 298 (P/O) and Pin C282 , Circuit 57 (BK).
    Is there B+?
    Yes No
    GO to A4 . NOTE: A quick check for the A/C electronic blend door actuator can be done by connecting a replacement A/C electronic blend door actuator and jumper harness to the connector. Then operate system and look for A/C electronic blend door actuator operation.



    CHECK wiring for opens/shorts.

    A4 CHECK CONTROL HEAD POTENTIOMETER SUPPLY VOLTAGE
    CAUTION: Never short across Circuit 436 (R/LG) and Circuit 438 (R/W) or damage could occur.

    Connect A/C electronic blend door actuator 8-pin connector C282 .
    Disconnect 3-pin connector C2020 from back of potentiometer at the A/C control.
    Using a voltmeter, check for voltage between Circuit 436 (R/LG) and Circuit 437 (Y/LG).
    Is there reference voltage (approximately 1-2 volts less than battery voltage)?
    Yes No
    GO to A5 . NOTE: If wiring to potentiometer is good, then REPLACE A/C electronic blend door actuator.



    SERVICE opens/shorts in wiring as necessary.

    A5 CHECK CONTROL HEAD POTENTIOMETER
    Disconnect and remove control head potentiometer.
    Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between terminals No. 2 and No. 3.
    With potentiometer at full cold, resistance should equal 5000 ohms.
    With potentiometer at full hot, resistance should equal 300 ohms.
    Is resistance linearly variable in between?
    Yes No
    NOTE: REPLACE A/C electronic blend door actuator motor and CHECK jumper harness on A/C evaporator housing for resistance during A/C electronic blend door actuator replacement.


    REPLACE potentiometer.

    PINPOINT TEST B: A/C DOES NOT OPERATE/DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY

    B1 CHECK SYSTEM OPERATION
    NOTE: The ambient temperature must be above approximately 10° C (50°F) for A/C compressor operation.



    Start engine.
    Turn A/C on.
    Check battery voltage (if not 12.5 V or more, refer to Section 14-00 for charging system diagnosis).
    Select MAX A/C.
    Does A/C clutch engage after 5 second delay?
    Yes No
    Circuit functioning properly. GO to B2 .

    B2 A/C CYCLING SWITCH
    Disconnect electrical connector C155 from A/C cycling switch.
    Jumper harness pins.
    Engine must be running with A/C on.
    Does A/C clutch engage?
    Yes No
    GO to B3 . GO to B4 .

    B3 CHECK REFRIGERANT SYSTEM PRESSURE
    Connect gauge set to service ports and observe pressure.
    Reading should be above 344.75 kPa (50 psi) with the engine off.
    Is pressure above 344.75 kPa (50 psi)?
    Yes No
    REPLACE A/C cycling switch. CHECK refrigerant system for leaks. SERVICE system as required. GO to B1 .

    B4 CHECK VOLTAGE AT A/C CYCLING SWITCH
    Check for battery positive voltage (B+) at the A/C cycling switch electrical connector C150 Circuit 348 (P) to ground.
    Check for B+ at A/C high pressure cutout switch electrical connector C150 Circuit 883 (PK/LB) to ground.
    Is there B+?
    Yes No
    GO to B7 . GO to B5 .

    B5 CHECK A/C CONTROL ASSEMBLY
    Check for B+ at A/C control assembly Circuit 348 (P) to ground.
    Is there B+?
    Yes No
    SERVICE Circuit 348 (P) for open circuit. RETEST. GO to B6 .

    B6 CHECK A/C CONTROL SUPPLY VOLTAGE
    Check for B+ at A/C control assembly Circuit 298 (P/O) to ground.
    Ignition switch must be in the RUN position.
    Is there B+?
    Yes No
    REPLACE A/C control assembly. RETEST. SERVICE wiring for opens or shorts. CHECK fuse. If open, CHECK clutch diode for short. SERVICE as necessary. RETEST.

    B7 CHECK A/C CLUTCH CIRCUITS
    Check for voltage across harness connector C156 at A/C clutch field coil.
    A minimum of 10 volts is required.
    Is there a minimum of 10 volts?
    Yes No
    GO to B9 . GO to B8 .

    B8 CHECK A/C CLUTCH VOLTAGE
    Check for voltage at A/C clutch harness C156 Circuit 347 (BK/Y) and ground.
    Is there a minimum of 10 volts?
    Yes No
    SERVICE Circuit 57 (BK) for open circuit. RETEST. GO to B11 .

    B9 JUMP A/C CLUTCH FIELD COIL
    Disconnect A/C clutch field coil and jump B+ and ground to A/C clutch field coil.
    Does A/C clutch engage?
    Yes No
    CLEAN coil electrical terminals and RETEST system. GO to B10 .

    B10 CHECK A/C CLUTCH AIR GAP
    Check air gap between A/C clutch and A/C clutch pulley. Refer to Section 12-03C . Air gap must be within specified limits.
    Is air gap within specification?
    Yes No
    REPLACE A/C clutch field coil. RESET air gap. GO to B9 .

    B11 CHECK VOLTAGE AT A/C CUTOUT RELAY
    Check for B+ at the A/C cutout relay Circuit 198 (DG/O) to ground.
    Is there B+?
    Yes No
    GO to B13 . GO to B12 .

    B12 CHECK VOLTAGE AT A/C PRESSURE CUT-OFF SWITCH
    Check for B+ at the A/C pressure cut-off switch Circuit 198 (DG/O) to ground.
    Is there B+?
    Yes No
    SERVICE Circuit 198 (DG/O). RETEST. REPLACE A/C pressure cut-off switch. RETEST system.

    B13 CHECK VOLTAGE FROM A/C CUTOUT RELAY
    Check for B+ at A/C cutout relay Circuit 347 (BK/Y) to ground.
    Is there B+?
    Yes No
    SERVICE Circuit 347 (BK/Y) for open circuit. GO to B14 .

    B14 CHECK A/C CUTOUT RELAY OPERATION
    With the engine running, reconnect the harness connector to the A/C cutout relay and check to see if relay energizes. The A/C clutch circuit will open if the relay energizes.
    Does relay energize?
    Yes No
    The powertrain control module is causing relay to energize and interrupt A/C compressor circuit. Any of the following can be the cause. REFER to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual for proper service.

    Throttle position sensor sending wide open throttle signal to powertrain control module. DISCONNECT electrical connector to remove throttle position sensor from circuit. A/C clutch will engage if throttle position sensor is sending wide open throttle cutout signal.

    Engine coolant temperature sensor sending hot coolant signal to powertrain control module. DISCONNECT electrical connector from engine coolant temperature sensor.

    A/C clutch will engage if engine coolant temperature sensor is sending hot coolant signal to the powertrain control module. A/C ON circuit to powertrain control module open. If circuit is open, powertrain control module will not receive signal from A/C pressure cut-off switch to turn A/C clutch on. REPLACE A/C cutout relay.

    PINPOINT TEST C: NO OPERATION IN ALL BLOWER SETTINGS

    C1 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR OPERATION
    Turn ignition switch to RUN, A/C-heater function selector switch to FLOOR and heater blower motor switch to HI.
    Does blower motor operate?
    Yes No
    GO to C2 . GO to C4 .

    C2 CHECK BLOWER LO SPEED
    Rotate heater blower motor switch to LO.
    Does blower motor operate?
    Yes No
    WIGGLE wires and CHECK for intermittent operation. SERVICE if necessary. GO to C3 .

    C3 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR
    Check heater blower motor switch resistor for resistance of coils and thermal limiter.
    Is heater blower motor switch resistor good?
    Yes No
    CHECK Circuit 261 (O/BK) from blower motor to heater blower motor switch resistor and heater blower motor switch and Circuit 57 (BK) from resistor to ground. SERVICE as necessary. REPLACE heater blower motor switch resistor and CHECK blower motor operation.

    C4 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR
    Turn ignition switch OFF. Ground Circuit 261 (O/BK) at the blower motor.
    Position A/C-heater function selector switch at FLOOR and turn ignition switch to RUN long enough to check for blower motor operation.
    Does blower motor operate?
    Yes No
    CHECK Circuit 261 (O/BK) between blower motor and the heater blower motor switch and heater blower motor switch resistor for an open or Circuit 57 (BK) for open between heater blower motor switch resistor and heater blower motor switch. SERVICE as necessary. GO to C5 .

    C5 CHECK FUSE
    Check blower motor fuse.
    Is fuse good?
    Yes No
    GO to C6 . GO to C9 .

    C6 CHECK A/C-HEATER FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH
    Pull A/C control from instrument panel enough to gain access to the electrical connectors. With A/C-heater function selector switch set at FLOOR and ignition switch in RUN, using a voltmeter, check for B+ at function selector switch Pin C2018 , Circuit 249 (DB/LG).
    Is there B+
    Yes No
    GO to C8 . GO to C7 .

    C7 CHECK B+ TO A/C-HEATER FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH
    With same conditions as in Step 6, using a voltmeter, check for B+ at Pin C2018 of A/C-heater function selector switch, Circuit 181 (BR/O).
    Is there B+?
    Yes No
    Test A/C-heater function selector switch for resistance in all switch positions. REPLACE A/C-heater function selector switch if not continuous in all positions except OFF. CHECK Circuit 181 (BR/O) between fuse panel and A/C control.

    C8 CHECK FOR B+ IN FLOOR POSITION
    Re-install the A/C control. With ignition switch in RUN and A/C-heater function selector switch set at FLOOR, using a voltmeter, check for B+ at blower motor Circuit 249 (DB/LG).
    Is there B+?
    Yes No
    REPLACE blower motor. SERVICE Circuit 249 (DB/LG) for open between A/C control and blower motor.

    C9 CHECK CIRCUIT
    Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect blower motor connector and install a new fuse. Turn ignition switch to run with A/C-heater function selector switch at FLOOR.
    Does fuse open?
    Yes No
    GO to C10 . REPLACE blower motor. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

    C10 CHECK CIRCUIT FOR SHORT
    Pull A/C control from instrument panel enough to gain access to the electrical connectors. Disconnect the harness connector from the A/C-heater function selector switch. Install a new fuse and turn the ignition switch in RUN.
    Does the fuse open?
    Yes No
    CHECK Circuit 181 (BR/O) for short. SERVICE as necessary. CHECK Circuit 249 (DB/LG) for short. SERVICE as necessary. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

    PINPOINT TEST D: NO OPERATION IN HIGH BLOWER SETTING

    D1 CHECK BLOWER SPEED
    Turn ignition switch to run, A/C-heater function selector switch to FLOOR.
    Turn heater blower motor switch to HI.
    Does blower motor operate on HI?
    Yes No
    CYCLE heater blower motor switch from HI to LO several times. If blower operates each time, advise owner of system operation. If blower does not operate in HI each time, REPLACE heater blower motor switch. GO to D2 .

    D2 CHECK BLOWER SWITCH
    Disconnect blower motor switch.
    Check resistance of heater blower motor switch.

    BLOWER SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST Switch Position Continuity Between Terminals
    LOW NONE
    MEDIUM/LOW 2 and 3 ONLY
    MEDIUM/HIGH 2, 4 and 3 ONLY
    HIGH 2, 1 and 4 ONLY


    Is there 5 ohms or less in all positions?
    Yes No
    SERVICE Circuit 57 (BK) between heater blower motor switch and ground as necessary. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. REPLACE heater blower motor switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

    PINPOINT TEST E: BLOWER MOTOR OPERATES IN HIGH SPEED ONLY

    E1 CHECK BLOWER OPERATION
    Turn ignition switch to RUN, A/C-heater function selector switch to FLOOR and heater blower motor switch at LO.
    Does blower motor operate?
    Yes No
    GO to E5 . GO to E2 .

    E2 CHECK BLOWER SWITCH OPERATION
    Slowly move heater blower motor switch from LO to HI. Stop at each detent and check for blower motor operation.
    Does blower motor operate in any speed except HI?
    Yes No
    GO to E4 . GO to E3 .

    E3 CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT
    Using an ohmmeter, check Circuit 57 (BK) from heater blower motor switch resistor to ground for an open.
    Is ground wire open?
    Yes No
    SERVICE or REPLACE as required. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. REPLACE heater blower motor switch resistor. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

    E4 CHECK CIRCUIT
    Using an ohmmeter, check Circuit 261 (O/BK) between blower motor and heater blower motor switch resistor for open.
    Is there 5 ohms or less?
    Yes No
    SERVICE as necessary and CHECK blower motor operation. REPLACE heater blower motor switch resistor.

    E5 CHECK BLOWER SWITCH
    Check blower motor operation several times in each heater blower motor switch position.
    Does blower motor operate in all knob positions without interruption?
    Yes No
    CHECK system operation in all function positions and blower speeds. If OK, INSTRUCT owner on correct operation of system. GO to E6 .

    E6 CHECK BLOWER SWITCH RESISTANCE
    Remove harness connector from heater blower motor switch. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance through heater blower motor switch in each position.

    BLOWER SWITCH RESISTANCE TEST Switch Position Continuity Between Terminals
    LOW NONE
    MEDIUM/LOW 2 and 3 ONLY
    MEDIUM/HIGH 2, 4 and 3 ONLY
    HIGH 2, 1 and 4 ONLY


    Is there 5 ohms or less in all positions?
    Yes No
    CHECK resistance of Circuit 754 (LG/W) and 752 (Y/R) between heater blower motor switch and heater blower motor switch resistor. SERVICE as required. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. REPLACE heater blower motor switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

      what do you need regis? from our phone conversation, i thought your cooling fan motor crapped out............is it the cooling fan or the blower motor that crapped out?

      1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

        Yes I got heat as I way driving lastnight then my blower came back on then it went out again & it was doing it this past summer also of & on it was good for a few months now it started back up again & to anwser your ? 97cv I get the clamite control in my vic not the knobs that in the P71 or P73`s my is from a P74......

          Scott as we talked about it before that I also talked w/Pat & Ryan aka Raptor about this Issue it happed to Ryan in his 98 GMQ & Pat Dad`s 05 CV happened also so I go to get to a yard to look for this piece.......

            Using a voltmeter, check for B+ between Pin C282 , Circuit 298 (P/O) and Pin C282 , Circuit 57 (BK).
            Is there B+?
            Yes No
            GO to A4 . NOTE: A quick check for the A/C electronic blend door actuator can be done by connecting a replacement A/C electronic blend door actuator and jumper harness to the connector. Then operate system and look for A/C electronic blend door actuator operation.



            CHECK wiring for opens/shorts.

            A4 CHECK CONTROL HEAD POTENTIOMETER SUPPLY VOLTAGE
            CAUTION: Never short across Circuit 436 (R/LG) and Circuit 438 (R/W) or damage could occur.

            Connect A/C electronic blend door actuator 8-pin connector C282 .
            Disconnect 3-pin connector C2020 from back of potentiometer at the A/C control.
            Using a voltmeter, check for voltage between Circuit 436 (R/LG) and Circuit 437 (Y/LG).
            Is there reference voltage (approximately 1-2 volts less than battery voltage)?
            Yes No
            GO to A5 . NOTE: If wiring to potentiometer is good, then REPLACE A/C electronic blend door actuator.



            SERVICE opens/shorts in wiring as necessary.

            A5 CHECK CONTROL HEAD POTENTIOMETER
            Disconnect and remove control head potentiometer.
            Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between terminals No. 2 and No. 3.
            With potentiometer at full cold, resistance should equal 5000 ohms.
            With potentiometer at full hot, resistance should equal 300 ohms.
            Is resistance linearly variable in between?
            Yes No
            NOTE: REPLACE A/C electronic blend door actuator motor and CHECK jumper harness on A/C evaporator housing for resistance during A/C electronic blend door actuator replacement.


            REPLACE potentiometer.

            PINPOINT TEST B: A/C DOES NOT OPERATE/DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY

            B1 CHECK SYSTEM OPERATION
            NOTE: The ambient temperature must be above approximately 10° C (50°F) for A/C compressor operation.



            Start engine.
            Turn A/C on.
            Check battery voltage (if not 12.5 V or more, refer to Section 14-00 for charging system diagnosis).
            Select MAX A/C.
            Does A/C clutch engage after 5 second delay?
            Yes No
            Circuit functioning properly. GO to B2 .

            B2 A/C CYCLING SWITCH
            Disconnect electrical connector C155 from A/C cycling switch.
            Jumper harness pins.
            Engine must be running with A/C on.
            Does A/C clutch engage?
            Yes No
            GO to B3 . GO to B4 .

            B3 CHECK REFRIGERANT SYSTEM PRESSURE
            Connect gauge set to service ports and observe pressure.
            Reading should be above 344.75 kPa (50 psi) with the engine off.
            Is pressure above 344.75 kPa (50 psi)?
            Yes No
            REPLACE A/C cycling switch. CHECK refrigerant system for leaks. SERVICE system as required. GO to B1 .

            B4 CHECK VOLTAGE AT A/C CYCLING SWITCH
            Check for battery positive voltage (B+) at the A/C cycling switch electrical connector C150 Circuit 348 (P) to ground.
            Check for B+ at A/C high pressure cutout switch electrical connector C150 Circuit 883 (PK/LB) to ground.
            Is there B+?
            Yes No
            GO to B7 . GO to B5 .

            B5 CHECK A/C CONTROL ASSEMBLY
            Check for B+ at A/C control assembly Circuit 348 (P) to ground.
            Is there B+?
            Yes No
            SERVICE Circuit 348 (P) for open circuit. RETEST. GO to B6 .

            B6 CHECK A/C CONTROL SUPPLY VOLTAGE
            Check for B+ at A/C control assembly Circuit 298 (P/O) to ground.
            Ignition switch must be in the RUN position.
            Is there B+?
            Yes No
            REPLACE A/C control assembly. RETEST. SERVICE wiring for opens or shorts. CHECK fuse. If open, CHECK clutch diode for short. SERVICE as necessary. RETEST.

            B7 CHECK A/C CLUTCH CIRCUITS
            Check for voltage across harness connector C156 at A/C clutch field coil.
            A minimum of 10 volts is required.
            Is there a minimum of 10 volts?
            Yes No
            GO to B9 . GO to B8 .

            B8 CHECK A/C CLUTCH VOLTAGE
            Check for voltage at A/C clutch harness C156 Circuit 347 (BK/Y) and ground.
            Is there a minimum of 10 volts?
            Yes No
            SERVICE Circuit 57 (BK) for open circuit. RETEST. GO to B11 .

            B9 JUMP A/C CLUTCH FIELD COIL
            Disconnect A/C clutch field coil and jump B+ and ground to A/C clutch field coil.
            Does A/C clutch engage?
            Yes No
            CLEAN coil electrical terminals and RETEST system. GO to B10 .

            B10 CHECK A/C CLUTCH AIR GAP
            Check air gap between A/C clutch and A/C clutch pulley. Refer to Section 12-03C . Air gap must be within specified limits.
            Is air gap within specification?
            Yes No
            REPLACE A/C clutch field coil. RESET air gap. GO to B9 .

            B11 CHECK VOLTAGE AT A/C CUTOUT RELAY
            Check for B+ at the A/C cutout relay Circuit 198 (DG/O) to ground.
            Is there B+?
            Yes No
            GO to B13 . GO to B12 .

            B12 CHECK VOLTAGE AT A/C PRESSURE CUT-OFF SWITCH
            Check for B+ at the A/C pressure cut-off switch Circuit 198 (DG/O) to ground.
            Is there B+?
            Yes No
            SERVICE Circuit 198 (DG/O). RETEST. REPLACE A/C pressure cut-off switch. RETEST system.

            B13 CHECK VOLTAGE FROM A/C CUTOUT RELAY
            Check for B+ at A/C cutout relay Circuit 347 (BK/Y) to ground.
            Is there B+?
            Yes No
            SERVICE Circuit 347 (BK/Y) for open circuit. GO to B14 .

            B14 CHECK A/C CUTOUT RELAY OPERATION
            With the engine running, reconnect the harness connector to the A/C cutout relay and check to see if relay energizes. The A/C clutch circuit will open if the relay energizes.
            Does relay energize?
            Yes No
            The powertrain control module is causing relay to energize and interrupt A/C compressor circuit. Any of the following can be the cause. REFER to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual for proper service.

            Throttle position sensor sending wide open throttle signal to powertrain control module. DISCONNECT electrical connector to remove throttle position sensor from circuit. A/C clutch will engage if throttle position sensor is sending wide open throttle cutout signal.

            Engine coolant temperature sensor sending hot coolant signal to powertrain control module. DISCONNECT electrical connector from engine coolant temperature sensor.

            A/C clutch will engage if engine coolant temperature sensor is sending hot coolant signal to the powertrain control module. A/C ON circuit to powertrain control module open. If circuit is open, powertrain control module will not receive signal from A/C pressure cut-off switch to turn A/C clutch on. REPLACE A/C cutout relay.

            PINPOINT TEST C: NO OPERATION IN ALL BLOWER SETTINGS

            C1 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR OPERATION
            Turn ignition switch to RUN, A/C-heater function selector switch to FLOOR and heater blower motor switch to HI.
            Does blower motor operate?
            Yes No
            GO to C2 . GO to C4 .

            C2 CHECK BLOWER LO SPEED
            Rotate heater blower motor switch to LO.
            Does blower motor operate?
            Yes No
            WIGGLE wires and CHECK for intermittent operation. SERVICE if necessary. GO to C3 .

            C3 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR
            Check heater blower motor switch resistor for resistance of coils and thermal limiter.
            Is heater blower motor switch resistor good?
            Yes No
            CHECK Circuit 261 (O/BK) from blower motor to heater blower motor switch resistor and heater blower motor switch and Circuit 57 (BK) from resistor to ground. SERVICE as necessary. REPLACE heater blower motor switch resistor and CHECK blower motor operation.

            C4 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR
            Turn ignition switch OFF. Ground Circuit 261 (O/BK) at the blower motor.
            Position A/C-heater function selector switch at FLOOR and turn ignition switch to RUN long enough to check for blower motor operation.
            Does blower motor operate?
            Yes No
            CHECK Circuit 261 (O/BK) between blower motor and the heater blower motor switch and heater blower motor switch resistor for an open or Circuit 57 (BK) for open between heater blower motor switch resistor and heater blower motor switch. SERVICE as necessary. GO to C5 .

            C5 CHECK FUSE
            Check blower motor fuse.
            Is fuse good?
            Yes No
            GO to C6 . GO to C9 .

            C6 CHECK A/C-HEATER FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH
            Pull A/C control from instrument panel enough to gain access to the electrical connectors. With A/C-heater function selector switch set at FLOOR and ignition switch in RUN, using a voltmeter, check for B+ at function selector switch Pin C2018 , Circuit 249 (DB/LG).
            Is there B+
            Yes No
            GO to C8 . GO to C7 .

            C7 CHECK B+ TO A/C-HEATER FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH
            With same conditions as in Step 6, using a voltmeter, check for B+ at Pin C2018 of A/C-heater function selector switch, Circuit 181 (BR/O).
            Is there B+?
            Yes No
            Test A/C-heater function selector switch for resistance in all switch positions. REPLACE A/C-heater function selector switch if not continuous in all positions except OFF. CHECK Circuit 181 (BR/O) between fuse panel and A/C control.

            C8 CHECK FOR B+ IN FLOOR POSITION
            Re-install the A/C control. With ignition switch in RUN and A/C-heater function selector switch set at FLOOR, using a voltmeter, check for B+ at blower motor Circuit 249 (DB/LG).
            Is there B+?
            Yes No
            REPLACE blower motor. SERVICE Circuit 249 (DB/LG) for open between A/C control and blower motor.

            C9 CHECK CIRCUIT
            Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect blower motor connector and install a new fuse. Turn ignition switch to run with A/C-heater function selector switch at FLOOR.
            Does fuse open?
            Yes No
            GO to C10 . REPLACE blower motor. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

            C10 CHECK CIRCUIT FOR SHORT
            Pull A/C control from instrument panel enough to gain access to the electrical connectors. Disconnect the harness connector from the A/C-heater function selector switch. Install a new fuse and turn the ignition switch in RUN.
            Does the fuse open?
            Yes No
            CHECK Circuit 181 (BR/O) for short. SERVICE as necessary. CHECK Circuit 249 (DB/LG) for short. SERVICE as necessary. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

            PINPOINT TEST D: NO OPERATION IN HIGH BLOWER SETTING

            D1 CHECK BLOWER SPEED
            Turn ignition switch to run, A/C-heater function selector switch to FLOOR.
            Turn heater blower motor switch to HI.
            Does blower motor operate on HI?
            Yes No
            CYCLE heater blower motor switch from HI to LO several times. If blower operates each time, advise owner of system operation. If blower does not operate in HI each time, REPLACE heater blower motor switch. GO to D2 .

            D2 CHECK BLOWER SWITCH
            Disconnect blower motor switch.
            Check resistance of heater blower motor switch.

            BLOWER SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST Switch Position Continuity Between Terminals
            LOW NONE
            MEDIUM/LOW 2 and 3 ONLY
            MEDIUM/HIGH 2, 4 and 3 ONLY
            HIGH 2, 1 and 4 ONLY


            Is there 5 ohms or less in all positions?
            Yes No
            SERVICE Circuit 57 (BK) between heater blower motor switch and ground as necessary. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. REPLACE heater blower motor switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

            PINPOINT TEST E: BLOWER MOTOR OPERATES IN HIGH SPEED ONLY

            E1 CHECK BLOWER OPERATION
            Turn ignition switch to RUN, A/C-heater function selector switch to FLOOR and heater blower motor switch at LO.
            Does blower motor operate?
            Yes No
            GO to E5 . GO to E2 .

            E2 CHECK BLOWER SWITCH OPERATION
            Slowly move heater blower motor switch from LO to HI. Stop at each detent and check for blower motor operation.
            Does blower motor operate in any speed except HI?
            Yes No
            GO to E4 . GO to E3 .

            E3 CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT
            Using an ohmmeter, check Circuit 57 (BK) from heater blower motor switch resistor to ground for an open.
            Is ground wire open?
            Yes No
            SERVICE or REPLACE as required. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. REPLACE heater blower motor switch resistor. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

            E4 CHECK CIRCUIT
            Using an ohmmeter, check Circuit 261 (O/BK) between blower motor and heater blower motor switch resistor for open.
            Is there 5 ohms or less?
            Yes No
            SERVICE as necessary and CHECK blower motor operation. REPLACE heater blower motor switch resistor.

            E5 CHECK BLOWER SWITCH
            Check blower motor operation several times in each heater blower motor switch position.
            Does blower motor operate in all knob positions without interruption?
            Yes No
            CHECK system operation in all function positions and blower speeds. If OK, INSTRUCT owner on correct operation of system. GO to E6 .

            E6 CHECK BLOWER SWITCH RESISTANCE
            Remove harness connector from heater blower motor switch. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance through heater blower motor switch in each position.

            BLOWER SWITCH RESISTANCE TEST Switch Position Continuity Between Terminals
            LOW NONE
            MEDIUM/LOW 2 and 3 ONLY
            MEDIUM/HIGH 2, 4 and 3 ONLY

            CHECK resistance of Circuit 754 (LG/W) and 752 (Y/R) between heater blower motor switch and heater blower motor switch resistor. SERVICE as required. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. REPLACE heater blower motor switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

                LOL...he still didn't answer your question Scott. What a Brian Donor. It's his blower motor. Regis, I was talking with my Dad yesterday, and his problem was with the resistor, not the motor. The dealer replaced the blower motor resistor module, and all is well.

                  So Pat your saying it`s the resistor but not the motor it self u know what Pat the thing kicked back on yesterday & Scott if your reading this post plz look in to the resistor & by way Pat, Scott does have a motor it will bolt up as far back as the Boxes to the whales are the same I going to try it out & see what happens......

                    I assume you have EATC?

                    No resistor on EATC cars, but a blower motor speed controller is used.



                    If you push the fan speed thumbwheel all the way to HIGH (above and beyond the stop to trip hi-speed relay) and the fan suddenly works - it's the speed controller. It's in the same spot as the resistor on manual control cars.

                    If still no response, check connection at the speed controller for corrosion.
                    Pull the fan motor connector and probe the two pins with a multimeter. Turn the EATC on and put the fan speed to high. If you have B+ at the fan connector the problem would be the fan itself. You can jump power to it just to confirm this.

                    Note, the BMSC modulates GROUND to the blower fan. It will have B+ the whole time but ground will be switched and regulated to control fan speed.
