i used to work at quick lube place and learnd to hate 90% of fords and every toyota 4x4 made. my feeling is if it is a item that needs to be serviced on a regular baises more thought in placement needs to be given. oil filters need to be accessable. but even when they do, they get it wrong. like some ford f150s they remote the filter to behind the left side of the front bumper only to hang it sideways enstead of straight down so you can't load the filter. if they went to the trouble to do it why not do right.

The filters on the 03+ are a pain in the ass. I spend more time trying to get the old one off and the new one on then I did doing the whole job on my 99.

Really? The Tech-IV (CFI Iron Duke) in the '90 Calais had the oil filter hidden under a cover in the bottom of the oilpan.

If you think that the Grand Marquis are difficult, I'd love to know what is easy!
GM Ecotecs are pretty easy to change the filter on. Throw a 1-1/4" socket on the filter cover that's just under the edge of the composite intake manifold, and the filter comes right out the top of the engine.

Lol. G/f's 98 ford escort. Filter is halfway up the block on the back of the motor. If my forearms were any fatter, I'd have to remove the intake manifold just to get at it. As it is I get huge scrapes on them every time I do it.

More proof that Escorts should suck and that she should trade it for a '03-'05 Crappalier!

My Ram is the 'shiz' for oil changes. I don't even need to raise it, for one. One well located drain plug, and a special channel that prevents oil from spilling when the filter is removed.

Why is it that I should take pictures of everything I do to my vehicles? Especially something as trivial as changing the oil.
