I use Mopar filters on my truck (although FL1As will work fine); I've used whatever on my CVs. My Mustang will get Motorcraft.

I have tried Royal Purple, and Mobil 1 EP filrters. They are definitely heavier, and the 'can' is beefier. But... at the end of the day, on a 3000 mile OCI, I'll pocket the extra 10, and not lose any sleep over it. A heavier filter makes not a better filter (although the results above show the RP filter was one of the best). If it is endorsed by the vehicle manufacturer (ie Mopar, or Motorcraft filters), then its good enough for me.

My reasoning behind all of this is longer OCI's. I am going about 6,000-7,500miles atm using Mobil1 5w-20 or 5w-30 (Walmart sells 5w-30 for $30/5qt jug). The oil is a no brainer but I am just wondering if the Mobil 1 filter is worth the actual cost or if it is indeed just hype. If there is a "better" filter out there then I want to know what it is. Savings is also a plus but I will pay the extra $$$ if it's truly worth it.

FWIW, Advance is selling M1 filters for $10/each this week. If you buy online (free store pickup) and use promo code P20 (20% off) at checkout you get it for $8 or $8.40 after tax in VA.

As I said before - Mobil 1 (WalMart) and Motorcraft filters (about $3) and I can go 6-8K miles (could probably go a lot longer) and haven't had an issue in over 30 years!!
