The new motor is about to go in.

As you all know i have kind of fallen off this website for a while now. A few things have come up and other projects got pushed ahead of the wagon. but most of all i was looking for the best deal for the wagon that fit all my needs. I came across a 302 out of a 76 mach 1, not too long ago. After scrounging parts for a while and passing everything to my machinist i now have the motor near completion.

I stuck with the factory bottom end on the 302 and chose to add a mild ford racing cam. the heads are 351W heads with over sized valves and a 5 angle valve job. All new springs and retainers were added. everything was blueprinted and fit to perfection. I chose to go with a edelbrock airgap rpm series intake manifold topped with a holley 650 double pumper carb and a 50hp fogger NOS setup. water pump and oil pump are also all new and all i have left till the motor gets dropped in is the rest of the ignition system and the fuel pump.

i am also waiting till i finish reinforcing the frame and building my front tilt hood hinges.

Ugh, a ford letter cam....So many better cams out there...

What pn are the heads? Probably could have spent 300 bucks and gotten some used iron gt40s.

Still should be a bit better than the stock lopo, just not off the line. Been wondering what happened to you, and that awesome wagon!

The reason i used the things i did is because a srounged around for budget deals. The heads where sold to me with all the parts but needed to be put together and machined. the cam i got from a local shop for real cheap because someone ordered it and never picked it up. In all i have $700 invested in the engine from top to bottom. that is great considering the only thing not new in the block is the crank, rods, and pistons. But they were in great shape. im not trying to build a race car here. Just a presentable engine when i go to shows and still have a little more power for moving my heavy beast onto the freeway. I am still looking for a set of stainless shortys if anyone has a clean set they would like to sell.

You should definetely check craigslist, I've seen them all over there. And no that's not just in the South Jersey craigslist either.

I know all about deals! I got my e303 in a trade for some work.... and I traded it for some labor, and it got traded for something.... It eventually ended up in a motor..

700 is a damn good deal for a rebuild. Cannot argue with that.

You gonna show up north anytime? I'd like to see that wagon in person.

Here are the pictures of the engine. The intake manifold i have on it right now is for sale if anyone wants to offer. I was not sure what you wanted to know about the cast on the heads all i really see is the 351 cast and a W between another set of valves.

The casting # of the heads, would be a D00E or something..... at least a D and some numbers and one letter.....

Casting number is normally on the underside of the head in the lifter valley. You can easily check it with a mirror when you remove the intake.

So instead of the regular Performer RPM you're using a Performer RPM Air Gap?

yes, i liked the look of it. thought it would make the engine look more aggressive, mind you this car is a part time show car.

Ok i got this distributor for a great deal, not sure if it will work though. what do you guys think. I know i will still have to get a coil for it but i need to figure out what the 3 wires need to be connected to.

Also i noticed a difference between the bracket from my old motor ot the new one. it looks like i will have to modify this a little. Also i noticed that i am going to have to swap out the oil pan and oil pump because the one on it hangs too low and will hit the crossmember.

Going to need a Duraspark II box for that distributor, unless you plan on going aftermarket box.

You will need to use a 351 fox body mustang oil pan, and you'll need a 351 Vic air conditioner bracket. Other than that everything should line up the same.

or you use a stock oil pan off a crwon vic with a 351.

and you need to make sure you get the paint off the snout of the crank and replace the front seal that has paint on it.
