Remember, Canada. Different emissions requirements up there. Its why we got CFI here in 1983, and they kept carbs through 1985. Its entirely possible that an 83 Trans Am Canadia has no smog pump, but the US version would have gotten it. You'll find stuff like that here in the states too. There are things on California cars that don't exist anywhere else. 1991 Vic with mass air for example.

This is making me wonder...I've seen a couple of CFI cars around here and they've got KPH speedometers. Friggin' weird

Some new cars have air injection. They use an electric pump instead of a belt driven mechanical pump. Cats haven't really changed that much. They pump air only when cold to speed up cat warm up.

Yes, to make the visual inspection dogs happy. And run your ac with the original size belt and without worrying about an after market smog delete pulley that coughs off belts. That is if you have visual/anti-tampering emissions inspection.

It all depends on year and engine.

1983 for instance, 305's had cats but no air pump. 350's did have an air pump in SOME applications (and cats).

Canada or the US makes little difference. Early 80's would be the exception as mentioned, 1983 in particular in the passenger cars as the F-body still came with a carb here. 1984 it went to the same system as the US.

                  Alex.

CFI *MIGHT* have been an option. I know that in the late 80's-early 90's the F-350s with a 460 came EFI or Carbbed, buyer's choice.

The '85 Merc Capri could be bought with a CFI 3.8L so I assume there could have been an option on the larger cars as well.
