Ok good to know.. The rectifier is in the alternator? at any rate had the car out for a bit and all seems to be working fine now. Atleast i know now not to pull the cables off while the car is running.

yeah, there are rectifiers in the back plate of the alternator. They actually produce AC voltage, and the rectifier is what converts that to DC, which is what the battery and the rest of the system work on.Last edited by gadget73; 12-18-2010, 04:10 PM.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Now that its dark out I took the car out for the final test. The headlights and dash lights are so much brighter its like driving a new car. every thing stays the same at all RPMs not like before. So I'd say its working the way it should.
Thanks for the tips guys.

my car starts and it has AC. Yours doesn't start and it has no AC. Seems obvious to me.
