    Leaking hose

1988 Colony Park. I am posting pictures of a hose leaking ATF like oil. It passes between the battery and the AC compressor. A drop or two under the car after a drive. Please identify the part. I thought it was the transmission cooling line but my mechanic said it was connected to the AC system and not the transmission.

that is the liquid line for the air conditioning......the oil is mineral oil if your system is still charged with r12 refrigerant

OK, thanks. Because of the red oil drip I thought it was the transmission line. How do I refill the oil and what type of oil do I buy?Can this line be replaced easily?

the line can be replaced easily enough, but you'll need to replace the orafice tube as well as the big black can part (accumulator/dryer) and then pump it down and refil it with refrigerant and oil. It may be best to have an air conditioning shop do this for you. If you can still get R-12 readily in your country, use that. It works much better in these systems and the conversion stuff. It may also be a good idea to replace the other hoses and all seals while you're at it so you don't have to revisit this later.

An AC shop should know how to properly deal with this. The AC would need to be discharged, the parts Slymer mentioned replaced, and it would need to be re-charged. I'd probably suggest replacing at least all of the O rings at the various hose joints while its apart, but a better idea migt be to replace all of the hoses. The others will start to leak at the crimps one by one, just like the liquid line is.

The OP said he is seeing red fluid. The A/C hose is clearly seeping, but doesn't seem to be his problem.

in the saudi sand/dust, it may look red was my thinking. The pictures themselves show the issue and it looks like straight up leaking at the crimps to me.

Its definitely red, ATF like. Leaked on to a concrete garage floor. Anyway I will take it into the AC mechanics place ASAP. Thanks for all the advice.

you should check the transmission cooling lines too then if it's a spot under the car. The AC is probably still ok, but will need attention eventually, but the leaking transmission fluid will be a more pressing matter.

The trans cooler lines do run along the side of the engine almost directly below where the AC lines are. They are supported at the front corner of the oil pan and cross under the main pulley there. If they were cut or damaged somehow, that would explain the ATF.
