it would last LONGER as it has more reinforcement built in.

yeah, fuel hose will do the job fine. If you want super overkill, use fuel injection hose. I think thats rated to 50 psi or something. REmove the upper intake, the lines will be easy to access then.

Bypass it. As that's a source of future coolant loss. Run hose from lower intake to the heater pipe. Or wherever the other hose comes from.

John, I have been reading these hreads, and they talk about the the computer forcing the car to run lean if by passed

I don't know how I did it, but I was able to tak e the passenger side hose clamp below the upper intake off. It had to be from the factory cause the hose clamp was facing in the most impossible way

no problems with my 88 running lean. and mine's been bypassed for a couple of years now. I can understand running rich a little longer as the warm up period may be extended by a factor of 3-5% if my guestimates are correct. So meh. Runs better with cooler air anyhow.

I dunno, I have read somewhere that you have to do somethign to tell the computer that everythign is ok. Also take out the hose hookup in the throttle body

Also I think I might have to repair the fiting that connects the hose to the lower intake, cause when I presurize the coolant system, I notice antifreeze buidling up around the threads

I just used a piece of the old hose to clamp to the EGR spacer and close that off. That was just in case of a leak in an EGR spacer gasket wouldn't start sucking air through there.

as for the intake nipple, try tightening the clamp (if you don't have a screw type clamp on that, get one... the squeeze clamps won't be tight enough for fuel hose).

it doesn't run lean. if anything it would run ever so slightly richer since the air in the lower intake ends up cooler.

well, i yanked off the upper intake (PITA). Lots of freaking hoses and connections. I removed the two small hoses and also unbolted the fixture that connects to the lower intake. the mouth (nipple was very corroded and messed up.

While im here, is there anything else you guys recommend i replace?

If you already have the upper intake off, I would check/replace the PCV valve and screen. Usually those get clogged up and never get changed.

replace the FAT vacuum lines under the plenum with fuel hose (enough to reach the end of the plenum if not the entire length) and then don't worry about those hoses ever again. Also PCV hoses (again fuel line, but this one is fatter - dunno the size).

can you get those far rubber vacuum lines anywhere?

unless they're out of stock (like my local places seem to be at the moment... bastards), you should be able to get vacuum and fuel hose at any parts place from their bulk rolls. DO NOT USE vacuum line on the PCV hoses. Use a fuel or oil type hose as it will be resistant to the vapors and won't just dissolve in 6 months.
