I'd check the bearing races and anything else in the case that requires a flat surface for something to rest against as the washer may have been used as such instead of fixing the case.

      LTD needs 5spd.

Glad you're taking good care of your car Philip. Glad to see you're going through it all. Box needs love too.

Must feel good, working on something new?

Can't hurt to change the t/o brg, much easier now than having to do it 6 mos down the road....

You're already in there. I'd stick in a bearing if there is any question. Ditto the clutch disc and the flywheel surface. If its blue or anything, have it re-surfaced while its already off the car.

When we first took the upper intake off there was oil on the back of the top of the engine block (where the lower intake is...)

All good points. Clutch looks to be pretty new, which would mean the P/O was telling the truth about it being recently replaced.

LTD is so reliable now it's getting a hiatus from being work on, it is nice to finally have something new to work on.

Yes there was old oil behind the intake, the leak was bad enough that I was able to confirm that it was not coming from it. There is also old oil/grease on EVERYTHING. Thankfully that's getting fixed too.
