    Sorry, a tempo question

So I am finally all moved over here, and this tempo is driving me fucking nutso.

It's an 86 Tempo GL/EFI with a high idle problem. The throttle seems like it will not rest on the adjustment screw. It's about 1/4 inch away from it in fact. It's also wierd, because when teh car is idling (1800 rpm) the idle will go up and down at a steady rate, going between 1800 and 2000 rpm WTF? What can I do to fix this stupid fucking thing? I suspect maybe the IAC solonoid is preventing the throttle from resting on teh screw but I can't get the damn thing off without removing the throttle body. Any suggestions?

Sounds like either the tb is sticking from having a bunch of carbon and crap in it, or the IAC is toast. Open the TB wide open and spray the shit out of it with some cleaner. If you have an old tooth brush handy, scrub it out so its nice and clean and see if it works properly. Might also be someone backed the screw out too far to try and cure the idle and the IAC is stuck open. Unplug the IAC motor and see if it changes the idle. If it doesn't, I'll bet its screwed. That, or it has a major vacuum leak somewhere.

EFI. I unplugged the IAC, no change in the idle. I'll try some more tomorrow, after work. Damned car anyway. I miss GL.

Sounds to me like blown IAC. Just like spark plugs- pull the wires one at a time until you pull the one that doesn't make a difference and you found your problem.
