Finally got a big portion of the re-installation done on the Merc's drawn-out intake gasket project. And of course, after I torqued down all the bolts I realized that I'd put the stud ones in the wrong place. Now I'm left with no place to mount the damned black steel tube that runs the coolant from the water pump to the heater core. Any way to replace this with just a piece of rubber hose? I'd still keep the part that tee's off to go to the EGR or whatever, but otherwise it'd be replaced with all hose.
Will my method work? I'm not crazy about re-torquing the whole manifold. PLus, that damn steel thing is probably another source of rust in the cooling system.
