Seeing that a stock HO makes 225hp, I'd certainly hope not.

A quick search reveals GT40 Explorers having 210hp, and GT40P Explorers having 215hp. But, Explorers have those god awful exhaust manifolds too.

Don't want to do it to a motor that will go pfffftttt after 4000 revs though, so I'm thinking my camshaft selection and heads will help the most there. I'm thinking my bottom end with GT40 intake and maybe heads - if they'll flow as much as I want on the top

will a lopo bottom end take it just fine? did you do anything to yours, smokestack?
The engine i'm using is from an 89 mustang so it's a true HO with forged internals. Explorer motors used hyperutectic pistons. The lopo will hold up just fine on the shot your planning. Just remember you want plenty of fuel and no detonation. Most factory nitrous jet recommendations tend to be on the rich side. May have to take some timing out, use copper spark plugs and a colder heat range plug. Tuning is key on nitrous.

I would just go over a bottom end. 5.0 long blocks couldnt be easier to find. Get one for $100 and go through it. If you can do the work yourself its under a $1000. The engine runs better plus the piece of mind that its going to hold up. Win Win.
