    Gt 40 heads.

While visiting local pick n pull yards i found some goodies: holley 2bbl with aod linkage,4 holed orange injectors and gt 40 heads off 96 xplorer. The cyl #8 had/has oily combustion chambers (the #8 plug wire was burnt through which caused oil wash off cylinder wall i guess because of misfire). Would this condition (prolonged misfiring)damage the valves and the head itself? The whole motor looked very clean.

check the valves for sealing and check the head itself for straightness.

Anytime you get junkyard heads, you should have them pressure tested and milled....assuming you clean them up and there is no major damage visable...for a few bucks at napa, pick up some valve lapping compound and do a quick lap-in of the valves...it will give you a fresh clean surface between the valve and valve seat, if there is any pitting or cracks or any other malfunction, it will be very noticable at that point.

      Good luck,
