Well, after trying to put the carb back on i found out the coolant fitting i just put in hits the fuel line soooo, i re-clocked the dizzy and re-routed the plug wires. i put oil in the engine and ran the oil pump with a drill to make sure it was flowing, i had the valve covers off and it pumped up quick, oil was coming out of the rocker arms at a steady even flow evenly so i'm good there. I adjusted the coolant fitting and ran the vacuum line from the dizzy to carb, clamped the coolant elbow from pump to t-stat housing and installed the vacuum fitting on the back of the intake. i'm going to try like hell to get the car down to my house this week so i can put the engine and trans in and get the fuel lines hooked up. while its here i'm going to get the electrical sorted out and hopefully fire it up soon!

Is that shifter going to be long enough? Looks like it'll be awful low to the floor.

engine is in, i'll post pics soon, i had to remove the trans, couldn't get the right angle, the shifter is going to be swapped for a longer one with a boot kit to weather seal it

I've never had any luck stuffing engine+trans setups into a vehicle. Usually can't get enough angle on it to slide stuff in. Maybe with a lift and an overhead gantry crane setup it would go, but me no gots. Also, cheapo China cherry picker does not like engine + trans if you don't want to kill yourself when it breaks.

yeah, don't spray gas into motors like that. Tends to burn the hair off your knuckles. Fun trick for if it does catch fire is to just crank it again. it will suck the fire down into the intake and put it out.

                                Timing sounds very late.

                                1 wire GM alternator?

What voltage is your choke heater? A lot of them ran on about 6 volts, since it was intended to run off the alternator stator. That kept it from opening unless the engine was actually running vs just key-on. You no gots with that alternator, but if its 6v it'll open way too quick on you. If its intended to run off key-switched 12v, you're fine tho.
