It's 28. Is it possible to convert to a 31 spline?

Yes, but you'd need 31 spline axles.

You can use a truck trac lock carrier, you need custom axles or if you get lucky and find a factory limo with axles that arent worn you can use them as they have 31 splines.

some limo axles have 31 spline axles......those shafts will not fit into a 28 spline 8.8" .......you need the whole limo rear, not just the axles...they will not physically fit a 28 spline housing.......replacement shafts are around 280 bucks ea..........i'd stick with the 28 spline axles

hmmm...You can just swap out the carrier for a 31 spline T/L or whatever? Intresting...

yup, stock is 28. You can get custom axles made that are 31 that will fit in the stock housing....They are about 200/ea IIRC.

28 splines are fine. Hell, car craft just did an article on em saying they're comparable to chevy's 12 bolt. (it means they're plenty strong, for those of you who hate chevys) The 9" is still the best tho.
