Mark VI Coupe has HD Frame like Police Interceptor?

Found something interesting during my motor swap, HD stamped on the frame underneath the DS Motor Mount.

Since this car has the same frame and wheelbase as the Crown Vic Police Interceptor, is it possible that this car has the CVPI Heavy Duty Frame as well?

If so, or if not, how exactly would I verify this to be sure?

    CVPI owners please chime in.

IIRC, Town Car/Mark VI sedans and coupes all had the 117.3" wheelbase.

No trailer brake light wiring pigtail inside the trunk anywhere, and it has 10in Drums w/ 2.73 gears. So, no I don't believe so. Maybe all Lincolns got HD frames??? Never had the motor mounts off of one before this to check for sure.

Nope, the MKVI Coupe got the 114in wheelbase like the LTD/Marquis, the MKVI Sedan had the 117in wheelbase like the rest of the Lincoln lineup.

it could be a possibility that all lincoln town car/mark vi got HD frames. lincoln is top of the line brand than ford or merc so i can see them putting the nicer stuff on the top of the line brand standard

no, the wagon frame is pretty much the same as the sedan one. it may actually be identical, not totally sure. The panther frames are decidedly wider than truck frames are, though the C channels on the truck frames are taller. Ours are true perimeter frames, with the rails just under the door sills. Trucks have the frame inset close to a foot from the sills.

the only difference with a wagon frame (again... if there is any) would be behind the rear doors and probably behind the rear wheels more likely. I think the only thing actually different is that the rear bumper supports are longer on a wagon (hence the need for a different hitch from a sedan).

Very Cool that my car has an HD frame. The car feels much more solid, than the past LTD/Marquis' that I have owned. I can't wait to drive/ride in this beauty.

Slightly off topic, but I had to show this. After taking apart the original 351w engine today, I found out why she knocked like a mofo, and caused the original owner to junk the car. Just what I thought it would be....Burnt up Rod Bearing on #7, paper thin. Ouch!

I've taken apart a few "blown up" hunks of iron in my time, and that is the worst bearing I've ever seen.

The PO must have driven it for quite awhile after it started knocking, lol.

On the plus side the D9 block is still in really nice shape.

nice. A friend of mine had a 71 Mustang with a whooped 302 in it. He replaced the oil pump and went fishing in the pan while it was off. He found a bearing like the one in the picture laying in the pan. Never investigated to find out where it came from, but my guess is thats why it made no oil pressure. He put it back together and ran it a couple more years before selling it. The motor sounded horrible, but it ran.
