Boy, i feel like a dumbass

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU'RE IN TOO MUCH OF A HURRY. I PUT NEW U-JOINTS IN THE MERC YESTERDAY AFTER WORK. HALF WAY HOME, THE CAR STARTED VIBRATING LIKE THERE WAS NO TOMORROW. AFTER WORK TODAY, I PUT THE CAR BACK ON THE LIFT. THE FRONT JOINT HAD AT LEAST A 1/4 INCH OF SIDE PLAY IN IT!!!!! I PULLED THE SHAFT OUT, ONLY TO FIND I DIDN'T SEAT ONE OF THE LOCK RINGS!!!!!! AMAZINGLY, THE RING WAS STILL THERE, RIGHT AT THE VERY EDGE OF THE HOLE. I TAPPED THE CAP, AND LOCKRING BACK IN, MAKING SURE THE RING SEATED IN THE GROOVE. NOW ALL IS WELL, BUT WHAT A CLUSTERFUCK IT COULD HAVE BEEN!!.

Yeah, if it weren't for dumb luck, I'd have no luck at all.

I did that once, but I wasn't so lucky. I forgot both caps' clips and the driveshaft freed itslf. Amazingly, the aluminum driveshaft was reusable but it didn't save me from a 50mi tow home. Ins was pissed, but paid it and told me never to do that again or they weren't paying since there were shops like 2mi in the other direction.
