It enforces the perception that while you may have experience changing parts, you don't quite have a grasp on how things work and how to go about doing a performance build. I will try to be more patient

So the info from the O2 sensors take priority over the one coming from the EGR valve position sensor? Well that'd explain why in the LOL thread one guy mentioned the computer just stores a code but performance actually gets better... good to know

The mechanical experience I do have allows me to learn how these things operate at a much quicker rate. I'm learning. Going to start buying books to read about all this while I'm bored at work, as soon as we recover updating all our files that were :censored: during hurricane Katrina.

What if the thermactor bumps are removed? How will a set of E7s flow compared to GT-40/P's then?

A home port job of just removing the bumps will not bring the E7's into P territory. A professional job such as the CNC porting that Powerheads does will get them there. You can almost buy a whhole Explorer motor and P headers for what a set of Powerheads cost.

I paid $650 for my entire motor, throttle body to oil pan. The local head and block shop does machining, but they say a set of V8 heads can get as high as $1000.

I removed the bumps and gasket matched mine along with some bowl work, mostly on the exhaust side. i cleaned up the intake side a little also. These heads came with the motor and it only cost about $17 for the carbide burr i used to port them. These are only temporary till after the first of the year when i get a set of aftermarket heads.

That is cool. Home work like that is helpful and satisfying because you did the work yourself. I am sure that you picked up a few horses, just not the 30 that you get by bolting on a stock set of P's with a factory HO cam.

My cam is a bit bigger than an HO cam, .484/.512 with 216/228 duration. With the 1.72 rockers that makes .520/.550

You'll be in the danger zone with aftermarket heads and factory pistons(if that is what you have) with that cam. Make sure you check P to V clearance.

No factory pistons, block is .030 over, not sure what brand pistons but i think that they are the speed-pro rebuild pistons. Have been running the car for a while with no issues.

Factory replacements = same advice. With stock heads I wouldn't expect issues. With 1.7 rockers, I am running about those lifts with a Stage 1 TFS cam and P heads. The small exhaust valve helps. Aftermarket heads normally have larger valves which will cause more problems.

You paid 599 including shipping and core?
The best deal with the P's is to buy a complete Explorer motor. If you are going to freshen your engine, you can not build a shortblock and buy a set of Thumpers for anywhere near the same price and you are getting a GT-40 style intake and larger throttle body too. The gap just keeps widening.
Buying them seperately, I have less than $700 into the P's with headers on my Capri and that included high flow tuliped head valves and high lift springs with new keepers and retainers. 60cc factory P chambers and high velocity factory ports=better mileage than your Thumpers even if head for head you show a little better peak flow.
