    my advice would be to simply quit shifting so soon. Wind it out some, it won't hurt anything. Also, make sure the motor is running correctly, good plugs, fuel filter, no vacuum leaks, etc.

      I'm in agreement with Thain. I'd shift around 3,200 if I were you, to keep it more in the power band after the shift.
