Bolts still sticking out mocking me.

I tried pulling the front pump cover with a bolt trick I found online and put one of the top bolt holes through the casing Lucky I didn't ruin it.

I've decided to stop before I break anything else. I'm just going to change the seals orings that I can easily get to.

In my brokery I've been doing research, which I've found is free until you get money, and then spend it on what strangers online tell you to buy.

Which in this case appears to be 'governor', that if I'm right is sitting there on the tailshaft. Has anyone had one fail?

they don't really fail but they can stick. Theres not much to one, just a weight and a spring. If its giving you trouble, it may be worth pulling and cleaning it. If you are going to replace it, use a stock one and not a higher RPM version. That CFI motor won't wind up any more than it does with the low speed governer, so theres really no point.

Ah so. But are you saying my wheezy old cfi isn't the last word in performance?

Heck I've got the tail cover off, I might as well clean it. My neighbor is bringing home a welder from work today or tomorrow, might actually get the bolts out. I'll be a good learning experience for me. I think the title of the class is leave crap alone!

One bolt out, the other's a through bolt so I'll drill it out.

Finally got the last parts in. Not the kit, I've decided to back off from things a bit, but the tail bushing, tail gasket, front and rear seals, shifter shaft seal, rear engine seal, Wix filter kit (no the pan gasket isn't cork! :p), dipstick oring. I head up to the parts store for the speed oring when it's out.

One thing, there's a big rubber bushing/something on the tailshaft. Should I replace it? If so where the heck can I find one?

The cone thing? Thats part of the rear seal. The better ones look like that. The lesser ones look like a regular seal. If you can get one with the cone, get it. Its a dust seal to help keep crap from getting up inside the seal and wearing it out.

I know what you're talking about. This is just a rubber thing that slides over the shaft and sits about midway in the extention housing. It doesn't appear to do anything but heck. I'll just put it on. I'll try to get a pic.
