thanks would you mine trading for the 1988 digital one i have if you find the one i need it must be digital and have a cassette player but if you cant find one with the casette player that fine as a last resort i would want one with a cassette player. You guys are good people helping other people find stuff.

ok if you find please tell me how much it would be. I would also need the center wood grain trim that fits that radio in it. That wood grain has to be from a 1979-1987 Grand marquis as the fords, Lincolns, and newer grand marquis have different wood trim color.

Did this get closed out? I am about to remove/discard a 1989 unit similar to the very first pictures (thanks they are helping me). I have a Pioneer unit going in. Also I have the wiring diagrams for the 89s if you need them, plus original 'How To Use" radio brochure.

Unit is coming from 91 Mark VII. Some wiring modifications were done to allow a connector / connection point to work. That knowledge will be used to make change on 89 MGM.

Any tips? Amp is in trunk, passenger side mounted to back side of seat. Speakers mounted in doors, on dash, and rear deck. Should I switch out the speakers also? How do you know if speakers are punched?

                Take care

you know speakers are blown/punched/crapped if they crackle instead of making any kind of normal sound. The door speakers in the 93 escort I bought were prime examples. scratched, crackled, etc at any volume. no surrounds left at all. the rear were pure paper and had a few cracks happening which would buzz a little at moderate volumes.

[tangent]The Pyle speakers I put in are doing well for how much I paid for them.

My panthers, however, got a full Pioneer treatment with Kenwood head units and the 88 MGM has a pair of 10" Pioneer subs. sounds real nice. Looking to get some subs for the 93 Vic when I get some money up for it.[/tangent]

Depends on the particular system involved. If its the black amplifier, the Mark VII radio ought to have the same plugs, and it will just work. If its the silver football shaped amp, then I don't believe any of it is compatible, and you'll need the radio to amplifier harness out of the Mark VII, and you may end up running new wires from the amp to the speakers as well. If its the JBL system, you definitely want the Mark VII speakers. They're better than the standard or premium sound speakers.

Another thing, 91 Mark VII radio is that quick disconnect mount that uses the two bent wire things inserted in the faceplate to remove it from the car. The 89 radio actually bolts in. You'll have to figure out how to actually attach the radio to the car.

I got one of those plastic adapter things to fit a DIN size in my 88 MGM that had the bolt in radio. It was about $20.
