April of 03 I bought my 40gb Nomad Zen Extra at CompUSA in Newport News for $285. While 20gb Ipods were selling for 400 and 40gb Ipods were an aw inspiring $500.

if you have an (overpriced) Ipod, Alpine head-units are the only way to go.. i installed an Alpine 9856 with so called "quick find" or something or other, that lets you use the rotary knob to find songs while listening to one at the same time, instead of going song through song through song on an MP3 cd or through an Ipod.. the display isn't great, but you can upgrade to the 9853 with better illumination and better graphics for $350.. i'm happy with mine for $200, and it sounds great, even with the factory speakers you could really tell the difference from the old sony HU i had in.. also the built in amplifiers of the Alpine units push plenty of power, it's feeding my kicker speakers all the way around and they never go hungryComment
