Those who have PRIMED, PAINTED, or AIR BRUSHED ...

This thread is for gathering information from our members (experts and novices alike). This will eventually become an archived reference article. The main purpose of this project is to provide a reference source for those who want to be more informed and prepared before diving into a painting project.

Tell us about your experience(s) with priming, painting, air brushing, and/or finishing. "Finishing" refers to: applying clear coat, wet sanding, and buffing in the final stages of the paint work. Give details as to what equipment you used, equipment brands, chemical brands, masking techniques, how you set up your painting area or booth, steps you took in the finishing process, and how it turned out. Post pictures, if you have them.

    Rules:
-Do not post about body work or repair. This is priming, painting, air brushing, and finishing ONLY.
-Keep to the point. NO EXTRA BS or THREAD-JACKING!
-Tech related questions are allowed if they relate directly to the topic or to a prior post in this thread.
-No posts like "Hey, your car looks awesome" allowed.
-Any posts that can't follow the first four rules will be removed or edited.

I have had experience with paint, and primer. Both from a can and from a gun. One of the hardest parts is to get the paint looking really wet, without having it run. The best way I find to do this is to apply a skim coat, let it look blotchy and flat, then once this is tacky to spray on another thick coat. It should look wet and glossy. Only experience will let you know how wet you can get away with making each coat.
