    Use of primer optional ?

I had a young kid down the road paint my 89 crown vic. It was originally a silver base clear paint. He did some body work that he then sprayed with primer. On the rest of the paint he just sanded it and sprayed with black Dupont Ful-Cryl 11 which is a one step black enamel.
I questin him why he did not prime the whole car and he said it would have been a waste of primer.
The car does need a re-sand and repaint as there was a lot of imperfections and the kid gave up on the project. Did I get ripped off here ?? Will the paint come off ?

If no repair work was needed there is no reason for primer, as long as the surface if is fairly good condition. This is of course dependent on how good of a job you are doing e.g. daily driver, show car, stuff like that. But it your case I am assuming this is your dd and the primer is not needed on the whole car.
