nitpicking on turnsignals for boxy box crown vics

Looking recently at the turn signal lenses I have, I noticed there are two distinct shades of yellow/orange, one just noticeably lighter than the other, that the lenses came in on 80-87 crown vics. Every marking on them seems to be identical. does anyone know what year the change was made?

I wonder if its not just a fade issue or a different supplier thing. Ford did that stuff over the years. Mark VII headlights for example, 87 and older are usually fine. 88+ all get foggy and most of the driver's side ones turn into a fishbowl. Only the driver's side. Same part number, all markings are identical, just they age differently.

There was no evidence of less fading where it was covered by the chrome bezel, and of the 6 or so lenses I compared there were two distinct shades, so I'm gonna say it was like that from the factory.

the different suppliers is what my dad figured too, it would just be nice to know what years came with what shade so if I were to re-sell these or buy more no one would end up with mismatched lenses side to side.

its just like the marquis headlight bezels. the early ones are all chrome and the later ones where painted grey, where it recesed around the headlights.

were there "boxybox" crown vics with the grey-shaded headlight surrounds or did that happen during the 88-91 body style?

Yes I have a set that was gray I blacked out. The came full chrome and chrome with painted gray halfway in the bezel.

Both bezels meaning GM and CV? Well I can only say that I have had two different head light bezels. One full chrome and one chrome and gray.

just a brief update on this from more studying:

It seems to break down that, roughly speaking, the turnsignal colouring got darker as the years went on. very early cars (79-80?) were clear, then came the yellowish orange ones, then a darker orange. Within that you may want to match with two equally faded lenses if you have a few like I do.

However, they all have a 1979 SAE code, meaning they are identical in terms of shape and material, just a different tint.
