    Changing Door and Trunk Locks

    Anyone done it?

    Whats involved?

    The transport company lost the key to my trunk and doors, so I'm thinking about changin them. I have a set of trunk and door locks, with the key from my '88 parts car. Will they swap?

    I only really care about the trunk. It has a popper in the glovebox, but if anything ever went wrong, I'd like to be able to manually open the trunk.

    Does anyone else have a set of locks with key that the'd like to sell?

    Trunk lock has two brackets securing it/locking it in place. The rivets will have to be drilled out (should be 4 of them). One bracket slides around the side of the cylinder just securing it in place while another bracket actually is around the entire cylinder. I forget which one is which but only one bracket will come out totally. The other bracket will come out only after you pull the cylinder out of the trunk. No idea on 88 to 87 interchangeability but I can tell ya the 87 cylinder has a 3" or so long peg that slides into the latch mechanism.

    Doors are easy.. remove door panel, pull out the clip/bracket/securing device from the door jamb and pull lock rod out of the clip attached to the cylinder...remove the LED electrical plug if your have the illuminating courtsey lights then pull the cylinder out.

      doors: panels off... rods loose... pull the metal clip that's sticking out the side of the door above the latch mechanism. Really not that much to the doors. All you really need is a big flat pry bar beyond getting the panel off... and if the rod has enough length... you may not even need to take the panel off.

      now the trunk... that one I'm not sure about. Also... if you have a lock on your glove box... it uses the same key as the doors and trunk.

        for the doors, you dont always have to pull the door panels. iv removed them pretty quick from the outside only.

          the trunklid has been replaced, so I suspect you'll find there are no rivets, or they are just pop rivets. I forget what we did there.
