      If you loosen those fan bolts before removing the belt and use some penetrating oil, they come out without any particular fuss. I don't see what the big deal is.

        I tried removing those bolts with the belt off once only to figure out that it wasn't going to happen, so I put the belt back on and had no problem getting the bolts out.

          Backs the issue. Bending over for that kills the back and my legs from stretching. How often is one removing this stuff anyways....no pain no game.

            That would be my gripe, as well. Haven't decided if I'm going with an electric fan, or sticking with the original setup. Since the car more than likely won't see much road from here on, I'll probably just stick with complaining about fan bolts.

              I can't get a socket on them f'n bolts, can't turn them very much for shit until they get out a full 3-5 threads... they're not that hard at that point, but it takes 20-30 minutes to get the f'n things out and I can have an e-fan out and replaced in 15 WITHOUT my back bitching for the next 2 days from being hunched over for an hour.

                Which gets back to my point, a clutch fan you don't have to dick with often enough for that to be a concern.

                  I draped a towel over my fender & hopped in to get at those bolts. The trick to those is leave the belts on like mentioned but then to use a ratcheting wrench. No biggie with that dude in hand.

                    welcome to Texas. I have replaced the clutch fan on the 93 2 times within 1 year before I did the e-fan swap. I've replaced the clutch on the 88 4 times so far in the 9 years I've owned it. ALL of the e-fans I have sitting around still work... I just need a way to mount the bastards.

                            3 of those are easy, shallow holes with access to the back. Heat them up with a propane torch and they should come right loose. Can't see where the other one is. If its one of the long ones into the water jacket, the timing cover comes off. That makes getting the 3 top ones out even easier.

                              Thank you for the info, Thain. Long one was on the driver's side, I think the top bolt hole. So tired, can't remember for sure.

                              Went back and pulled the crank pulley, upper intake, and disconnected everything from the lower intake. Will pull the lower when I feel more up to the task.

                                Time for a new cover. Or some handy easy out work.
