OK was in the junkyard to day and found a 91 wagon, and looked at an 89 wagon next to it without the seatbelts, the top mounting point is in the 89 for the belt to mount but the threaded insert isnt in it..Are these available??
And the side panels will need to be changed since the retractor goes thru it..
    Looks do able.

Is that threaded insert welded in place?
      Doubt you can buy one.

Any one have a body parts manula?

If you just need something to thread a bolt into, why not use a nutsert or just drill a hole and weld on a regular nut?

I am sure it needs to be Hardened steel of some sort, a standard nut wold just rip out in an accident.

            Hm.

You could weld a Grade 8 nut to the back of a 1/4" steel plate, and affix that to the body structure very thoroughly? Seriously though, the seatbelt mounting points I'm used to seeing are just square nuts on thin reinforcements plates that are then spot-welded to the floorpans.

I wouldn't use a rivnut. I use them from time to time with my job. It is amazing to me how many I see pull out under normal use. I suggest getting a grade 8 nut and washer to install it.

Yup. I have one of those heavy duty tools to install them with... They stink!

The factory ones hold great cause they are done with some hydraulic setup. The hand riveting tool just doesn't get the job done imho...

Oh, by the way, I stand corrected about the third-seat safety belts. I noticed this afternoon that my '79 does indeed have mounts for seatbelts back there, just the belts themselves are long gone and the mounts were hidden over the galvanized sheetmetal that constituted the half-posteriored rust repair attempt from ages past.

also known as a nut-sert. it's a piece of crap. peterbilt 379's use nut-serts on their air cleaners. a wee bit of corrosion on the threads causes the whole thing to spin if you try to remove it.

Yep, they're crap. My Mark VIII uses them on the airbox as well.

Hi, it's been a while since the last post about the wagon seatbelts. Someone locally just junked a 90 CP, I never got the chance to see it, but he pulled the rear seatbelts w/ shoulder belts for me.
Anyone have any pics of this set up factory installed? I have the back seat out, and the headliner. I cant see where the bottom retractor attaches, There's a hole on the side next to the door that looks like the location, but the seat bottom won't go back in place. Thanks

Wagon rear shoulderbelts ... nifty! Need pics! Won't you need the correct year-specific C-pillar trim, or do the belts not go through the trim?

Nutsert discussion reminds me, I need to try adding some tack welds to the inboard nutsert for my driver's seatbelt.
