    Greetings from the Netherlands

    Hi there,

i live in the Netherlands, and I'm a big fan of classic American cars. (I buy cars with my heart)
Although Euro cars are excellent for commuting or fetching groceries, they just don't seem to cut it for me.

5 years ago I sold my first US car, a '63 impala ragtop, since it broke down all the time.
But things started itching again, so now I was in the market for another American car. Without the downsides of my previous cruiser.
    (lower milage, more economic, safer...)
And since I like full size ones, why not go for a station wagon to haul stuff?

Now I can buy Caprices all day long, but over here 1 out of 2 is a hearse.
And despite their size, I don't fit into them (well, maybe as a corps...)

The panther I stumbled upon, was big enough to fit me AND it said "vacation", instead of "funeral".
In a very stylish manner, may I ad.
It's a sand beige '86 Colony, like in the 1986 brochure.
(It needs some TLC and plates, so I'll post some pics later on ;-)

I joined this community since these cars are becoming quite rare, and I was hoping to get some answers regarding it...
If you've ever driven one, my first question is easy:
The transmission selector says P-R-N-D-D-1. Why 2 D's? (I'm not kidding you, I haven't driven it yet and it lacks a manual LOL)

    The second:
The engine only says FORD 5.0.
Not FORD 5.0 CFI or FORD 5.0 EFI. It looks stock, but I wonder if it differs.

That's all for now. Thanx and have a nice day!

and yep. Both D's are drives but the one circled is overdrive. It helps with fuel economy while on the highway. And I do believe you have Electronic Fuel injection.

        Thanks for your answer.
American cars aren't common, but there's a vast group of enthousiasts over here.
Because of the narrow streets and high gas prices, they are seldom used as daily drivers.
Especially older ones are interesting since they are tax exempt (from 25 years old).
Despite this, they are still far more expensive to run than new cars though.
Parts are far more expensive and harder to get ofcourse.

Personaly I feel more at ease driving a soft sprung boat with the soothing sound of a V8. It makes the journey itself more pleasing.

          Thanks 87gtVIC.

you guys are fast in making me feel at home here. I've red the 1st and 2nd gear are slush, and 3 & 4 are direct drive, so does it only use 1 & 2 if in drive?

              Thanks Gadget73,
does your name by any chance derive from inspector Gadget (driving the '64 Lincoln)?

If you are in drive (NOT circled) you will run through 1-2 and 3.

I love your country. My best friend and I are saving up money right now to visit Amsterdam in 2012. Looking forward to it.
