I was wondering what are the major issues people usually deal with a 25 year old panther platform car like a GM. This is actually my first car too.
Hope you enjoy your GM, My 84CV has been very reliable, most of the stuff i have dealt with mine have has been due too age. AC has long since gone, replaced intake manifold gasket and seals, valve cover gaskets, radiator repair, heater core just recently replaced. Here in east texas rust is the big problem. The cfi on mine has not caused me any troubles. The one of the rear springs was starting to sag, so i leveled it again with air shocks. I suggest using rotella motor oil, or high mileage oil because todays oils dont provide the lubrication for flat tappet cams. I also suggest not skimping on brake work. About two years ago replaced the enitre brake system on each wheel including the bearings. My CV has about 84000 miles on it now.
