    New Member who needs ideas.

Ok, i just registered about 15 minutes ago and my fist car (yes Im 16) is my grandfather's 1987 LTD crown vic. The kids at school totally hate on it (except for a select few, my gf wants to steal it) and i really want to prove them wrong that the box panthers are totally kick-ass cars that dont get as much respect as they should. Any how, heres a pic:

This I have already decided is going to be my hot rod. I am currently looking for a low-mileage two door that I will probably restore back to original, just because they are rare and might actually be worth something eventually. This one is the bottom of the barrel 4 door. No power windows or locks, no tripminder, but it is lucky enough to have the cloth split-benchseat (although its not an LX) The stereo is already swapped out along with speakers in the dash, rear shelf, and doors (which leads me to my first question).
Is there an alternative to the boring speaker grilles that I got out of a ranger, then installed after cutting the door panel? The grilles that came with the speakers won't work with the roll up windows. Now here is my first major goal:

I have never really seen a box panther bagged with 19-20" wheels (except for this photshoped pic of mine). That is very accomplishable. Im going to repaint it after straightening everything out with the body work, but the vinyl top is shot, along with the trim around the rear window. Should i replace it or just make it a slicktop? It's going to be repaint in the same factory color (shadow blue poly) and the vinyl top looks cool, but it would also save me 4-500 dollars to just remove it. Any help would be appreciated! Ill have more once I get a real list going.

16" HPP wheels, and then leave it alone.

It would look good with the wheels ya got in the photo shop and not lowered. or like pirate said HPP Wheels..some turnines would look good as they allways do....Another suggestion would be dual exhaust..Mufflers/No mufflers, your choice.

And don't listen to the kids at school..Every one used to make fun of My Grand Marquis until one day leaving school i left about A mile of rubber in the parking lot with a mushroom cloud of smoke and the screaming sound of Flowmaster 40's

hehe ill have to do that, plus it would be a good way to piss off my pansy of a dean if you could call him that.
And with the feedback with the air ride, i might just get the wheels and tires and see what it looks like. The kit itself would cost in the neighborhood of 1800 dollars, plus the time to fab all of the brackets and such. Ive decided on 18s after seeing that what will wheels look like on your car in this forum, and it looks pretty good. As fpr as the 16" wheels go, I've seen a lot of vics like that, and there must be a some sort of gene that runs in the family about being different (my dad's two project cars are a 48 Austin street rod and 77 AMC hornet). I know Im going to catch flack about this sentence to, but Im looking for a 460 out of a truck.

          Welcome!
I agree about not lowering it. But make a statement with it and have fun! I would start with a nice sounding exhaust. I would like a nice set of cragar ss on mine, but i was pleased with the look of wider 70 series BFGs on mine. (not a fan of lo-pros). I thought of putting a big block in mine, but i am leaning toward a built 351W. It would save weight on the front. Best of luck with your ride!

thanks! you guys have been very helpful. Final decision on wheel size is going to by 17x8 with 245/55-17 tire. I saw another panther bagged on here and I don't like it, so thats out of the question. My updates will be moved to another thread as ASAP.

You will be amazed at just the difference with swapping out those fugly hubcaps with some big boy wheels and tires.

Here are some of the looks i have. Maybe this can help you out in your decision.

              and currently:

and its up to you with the vinyl. You will actually spend A LOT more if you choose to slick top it.

Welcome! Try HPP's or police steelies. Both rim styles are 16" and will require spacers, which isn't a big deal. Tint the rear windows too if you like.
