I appreciate everyone's input. Looks like I should just go ahead with the 3:55's. I also should have clarified that when I do it I plan to swap out the entire rear end. So I'm looking for a "K" Axle code in the door? What years are a direct swap?

We'll then, that may change things.

Shit, didn't even realize we were talking aero's

But 90/91 rear ends are the same width as 92-97 anyways. 79-89 are the stupid narrower ones.

Axle codes changed in 92, no idea what the 3.55's were.

Best bet would bet would be 93-97 CVPI, 3.27's were factory, but 3.55's and a trac-lok were optional.

Where are you located. Do you even need Posi? If you don't have to deal with snow or a powerful engine you may not want posi.

Posi will break you lose on a turn easier then open.

Ok thanks for clarifying. I'm in Florida, so definitely no snow here.

I'd rebuild the existing one with new gears. All old rears have miles on them, and rebuilding one is as good as rebuilding another.

I've driven lots of open rear stuff in the snow, as well as limited slip. The opens don't spin out as easy, because they don't go anywhere. The limited slip will go but it will go sideways if you're not careful. Frankly I don't feel it to be a problem, and I'd rather be able to go if I drive careful than sit and spin. Same in the wet, just to a much lesser extent.

It's easier to steer with your right foot then go nowhere with it.

That may be true, but an open will slide a LOT more than a posi. Open will fishtail a lot longer than posi. So even in the rain, recovering from a small slip is MUCH easier with posi. Though, an open going straight will stay straight easier as the posi will allow the back end to kick out in the direction of the slope of the road.

This! And being in Floridia, there are plenty of other (non-winter) ground covers that could use some posi action - sand comes to mind here, mostly cause I've been stuck in it due to not knowing it was even there in the first place.
