    Installing CB Radio

So I figured this would be in here, but it is not so much a question on actual wiring but I am building a CB radio console mount in my 93 MGM and I will be placing an atenna on the back trunk. It will snake into the trunk and I want to move it inside through the back seat. Now on modern cars I could just go through the seat because they fold back or open, but in my car not so much. Is there a way for me to get a little coax wire through the seat without really tearing it up? I don't want to make unnecessary holes if I can help it.

There is a way to do this no sweat. I ran a new radio harness and antenna cable on my '97 town car. If you look in the trunk around the speakers, you will see a hole by the seat back and inner fender. You can fish the wire through that hole and it will come out by the rear door sill. Probably would be easier to explain with a pic lol.

Pop the bottom of the back seat out and you can fish under the insulation to get into the trunk if that grommet is not there. The bottom of the seat pushes back and lifts out of the hook on the floor. Its kind of a PITA but it will let go if you get it right.

Hope you are not going to drill a hole in the trunk for the antenna. There is a clip that goes onto the lip of the trunk. Just saw a nice one on Ebay. If you don't like that idea, a heavy magnetic type could be another choice.

No, I got a magnetic one. I don't want any holes if I can help it.

Looks good. Whats the radio? I haven't kept up with CB gear made in the last decade or so, and this one looks newer than what I recognize.

looks like the ash tray is blocked by the speaker though.

What type of material did you used for the box. Looks like it would match my rubber floor.

The materials were particle board and black felt (big sheet of it from Michaels).

I don't really smoke so I don't need the ash tray. As for the two cup holders that are with the tray, that is also fixed with the new cup holder. It works for me.
