    Turbonator???

Are these things for real? Anyone ever use one on a Marquis?

If this were true...It sure would be a good way to increase gas mileage.

Found the September 2005 issue of Popular mechanics.

The devices were tested on 4 full size trucks... We strapped the trucks down to a paif of chassis dynamometers and ran them dry of gasoline. then we added a measured quanity of gas, and ran four dyno pulls to determine horsepower and torque. Next, we accelerated to a corrected 70 mph, set the cruise controlto keep the speeds consistent and ran the trucks dry again. This gave us a base line of each truck's unmodified power and fuel consumption.
    results

    Miracle magnets.
    Fuel Saver, Fuel OptiMiser
    >JC Whitney, $22;heartlandamerica.com, $20
    >THEY CLAIM: It magnetically rearranges gasoline molecules for better combustion.
    > BOTTOM LINE: Weird science, but at least it can't hurt.

The Dyno says. As we suspected, neither device had any significant effect on performance or economy.

    Vortex Generators.

    Intake Twister
    >ebay, $20
    >THEY CLAIM: "Increase your gas mileage buy [sic] 5-10 mpg and increase your hp by up to +10 hp." "Spreads the gas out to get a full combustion."
    >BOTTOM LINE: Doesn't work and could fail and damage expensive parts.

    TornadoFuelSaver
    >TornadoFuelSaver.com, $70
    >THEY CLAIM: ">>> an increase in gas mileage-up to 28%!!!" "Dynamometer [sic] testing demonstrates an increase of 4-13 horsepower."
    >BOTTOM LINE: Normally, we want less turbulance in the intake, not more.

The dyno says:Both devices reduced peak horsepower by more than 10 percent. The Intake Twister increased fuel consumption by about 20 percent; the TornadoFuelSaver provided no significant change.
there are 3 other devices but they are not related in design to the devices in question and i dont feel like typing it out.

If you dig someone posted a while back about a cone/ funnel shaped device that mounts in round air cleaners (not sure if that applies to you Mr Merc) and keeps the air inside from bumping into itself and instead "funnels" it into the carb. Planning on getting one. Oh and nice car Mr Merc. Sounds like this is your first car. You couldnt have made a better choice.

Worthless. It's a fraud marketing scheme. I think it was gadget that pointed out the obvious flaw in the argument.

Swirling flow in a drain, flows faster because it allows the trapped air to escape through the center of the swirl. But in an engine all the air is going in.

Air movement is not used to atomize anything in an EFI car. Back in the day....I mean with carbs, it's a different story.

Bottom line, don't even think about wasting your money on a shredded Sprite can that blocks your air intake.

Yeah thats me. it is a cone that helps direct air into the carb. felt a little difference with it, when i dyno the car ill do a run with and without and see if there is a difference.

Nope, that doesn't apply to me; I have an EFI 5.0, so I don't believe I can mount a round air clearner.

And thank you; the Marq is my first car...And I love it! We used to have an 1981 Pontiac LeMans that was going to be mine, but my dad totalled it. I've always had a passion for the big cars ever since. After I got my license, I started driving my step-dad's 89 Marquis LS...And then I saw this one in someone's front yard, and BAM, I had myself a car.

                Professional products air-flo insert

But you will need a tall aircleaner. i have a 14' Moroso, with 2 3/4" stack heigth and i had to run a 1/2" spacer under the air cleaner and that was a little short. i now have a 1" spacer and it works good.

I don't think it would do much of anything...
but meh, it's worth trying for 30 days and then returning if it doesn't work.

That or whip out my cheapie japanese pull saw (you could cut your arm off w/ it in about a minute if motivated ala end of Mad Max) and make the insert shorter.
