The "Cali" cure for smog check is to put in a can of CRC Guarantee 2 Pass plus a can of octane boost then fill er up. Run most of that tank through at highway speeds if poss., then go into the test w/ the engine hot. I got two new Magnaflow cats welded in for $250 total, and I only paid that much cause I was too lazy to drive the hour to get a better price (havent had many days off lately). Took em half an hour.

i'm not too sure of the guaranteed to pass stuff. Never really seen it make much difference, but some people swear by it. If you do use it, absoulutly all of it must be burned out of the tank, or it will still be cleaning out your motor when you have the test run. May want to taking off your egr and cleaning out the passages on the egr spacer, and blasting out the egr with brake clean.sigpicVic Videos Here http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/showthre...676#post243676

I can't remember the exact figures...But it failed NOx, and doubled the regulation.
I was going to check into Guaranteed to Pass stuff...But I couldn't find it.
So what I am going to do...I've got Aamco Premium Gold high octane stuff going through my car right now. I'm going to drive around a while before the testing, top of my tank with the same stuff...And then go chance it with the emission test again.
I don't have the kind of money to do anything before Wednesday.
If I fail, I fail. I'll need to pay the $15 testing fee for my next one...Big deal.
So; after I test, I'm definitely getting a dual exhaust put on, with Flowmaster 40s. Get two cats, instead of four.
What's better though...? An H Pipe, or an X Pipe?
Will those rectangular Camero tips fit on a 2.25" pipe?Last edited by MrMarquis; 11-17-2006, 01:16 PM.

NOx is usually an EGR problem. Check it for codes to make sure you don't have anything related to the EGR system. Its also possible that the ports are clogged in the intake, and even though the egr valve works, the thing is so clogged that it just doesn't function properly. I think mrltd had that problem with his wagon.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

The EGR spacer I pulled at the junkyard was almost clogged shut, and the car it came off of had 146000 km on it, bout 86000 miles i think. Whole lot of cleaning and scraping to get all the build-up out. If yours has never been done, there probably would be a considerable improvment in your test results. But you would probably have to replace the egr gasket, and have a vacumn to suck as much of the build up out as possible, so it dosent get sucked into the car later. Or take the spacer off all together and totally clean it out, but thats more work and more gaskets to replace.sigpicVic Videos Here http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/showthre...676#post243676

I'm not exactly sure what the differences are between them, but i've heard h-pipes produce a deeper exhaust tone than an x-pipe. And I think h-pipes are usually cheaper. If I were you i'd just go to a yard and put on a stock dual exhaust, but get high flow cats and better mufflers(I like glasspacks personally.) Just do whatever you can with the money you have.88 Town Car (wrecked, for sale)

Man,I'm glad we no longer have e-testing here for any vehicle Pre96.I have all my emissions garbage ripped out exept for the cats.We still have the visual inspection/safety test, but I know the guy at the garage who does my inspections.I just took mine on wednesday, and he did'nt even pop the hood. All he did was check that all my turn signals/lights worked, checked the condition of the tires,I gave him $10 and he gave me my Sticker.Last edited by LTDMan83; 11-18-2006, 05:20 AM.

If you're going to put exhaust parts on it, screw stock duals, and definitely screw used stock duals. Go big or go home.
The X pipe has slightly higher flow at higher rpm. It supposedly allows each bank to be able to breathe from both exhaust pipes. The exhaust tone is slightly different though, not so much of that throaty rumble from an H. On a big car that never winds to silly RPM, its probably not an important consideration really. I have one because I got a good price on it.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
