Engine flooding when I shut it down

My Engine has been running Good lately, but almoast every time i shut it down and wait a bit, I go back to start it to go some where and you can relly smell gas and the only way to get it to start is hold my foot to the floor then it will start and run fine. This problem used to only happen once and a while but it beggining to become a every day event, this would probly be a stuck float i would assume, is there any other causes that would do this?
I have my 4 bbl manifold and carb i could swap over but i wanted to wait till spring,,

Have someone shut the motor off while you look in the carb. Open the throttle wide open and see if gas is pouring in. I've seen carbs with cracked bowls do that when the motor is shut down, but run fine otherwise.
