    H.O Throttle body problem

I started dissasembling my H.O throttle body today to get it clean and to swap the linkages over, when I remembered a problem I had when I did the intake on my other car. When I was re-assembling the intake on the 91, the brass throttle plate refused to go back into the throttle body, and it got bent in the process, and I had to straighten it in a press. After some sanding and filing (stupid) it fit back in, still not properly though, but it works. So I decided to take the brass plate in and out of the new T.B and see if it would give me the same problem. It did. It came out very easily, but flat out refused to fit back in. I ended up putting the t.b on my woodstove for a couple minutes and the plate in the freezer, and managed to get it back together, but it still was a p.i.t.a. Were these sweated in at the factory? I thought that I had warped the other one when I heated it to dry the paint, but this one never saw anything like that and gave me the same problem. Any ideas.

Why are you removing that in the first place? You do not have to disassemble the throttle body to swap linkages. I hope you put lots of loctite on those screws.

the brass butterfly has a beveled edge and will only fit in one way.

Make sure you didnt bend the throttle shaft while you had it apart.

I take them apart to clean and sandblast them, then paint and re-assemble. Cut the H.O linkage off and weld the lopo one on while it is all apart, then prime, paint and re-assemble. Nothing got bent or is going to get bent. And dont worry, theres plenty of loctite on the screws. I know its not nescessary to take it all apart, but its just how I like to do things. I got the brass plate back in and marked it exactly how it goes back in, so it shouldnt be a problem again.

Must be nice. Wish I had a sandblaster. I guess the reason I haven't pulled any apart is all the parts I've used were already dang clean (or new)

Only got a little benchtop cabinet. Have to take it to work cause my compressor at home is too small. If only I ha the ability to powdercoat at home, then I would be set for life. BTW sanblasting powdercoat off majorly sucks, 3 hours to do a set of aluminum mustang valvecovers. Still have an entire intake to do.

I've had them apart and back together before. It doesn't require heating or anything provided the parts aren't somehow damaged. The plate does only fit in one direction, and takes some fiddling to get it perfectly aligned, but it will go together without any special means if everything is in there correctly.
