I had some time at work yesterday to work on the 90 and got some things done. When I went to park it in its spot, I decided to rev it a couple times before I shut it off. Thats when I noticed the noise. When you rev it up to a certain rpm, theres a loud tapping sound. It dosent sound like an engine knock at all, so I'm thinking its a lifter gone bad/rocker arm out of adjustment. Its on the right bank of cylinders with the intake hangin over the valve cover, so I cant get a stethescope in there to listen. Anything you guys can suggest that I do to diagnose whats makin the noise?

If it's kind of a high pitched clacking noise, that sounds like a dead lifter. FYI, the rocker arms can't get out of adjustment with hydraulic lifters. One thing you might do in lieu of a stethescope is get a piece of dowel or something, and put one end in your ear and touch the other end to the engine. That'll allow you to pinpoint it better.
The other thing you can do is pull off the right hand valve cover. If there's clearance there, the noise should be a lot more noticeable with the cover off.
Hope this helps.

Depends on if you wanna replace all of 'em or just the dead one. As long as you've got it apart, you'd be best to replace all of 'em, I suppose, but if you just want to replace one...I'd say like $3-4.

I fixed the brakeline and fuel line and let it heat up and drove it around the parking lot for the first time today. after it gets hot, sounds like someone dumped a can of marbles into the engine. Gonna check the oil pressure out tommorow and see where I'm at. Hopefully all is well and its just a lifter.sigpicVic Videos Here http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/showthre...676#post243676
