650 is a bit much a stock ford holley or a 500cfm carter/edelbrock would probably be a better choice. Most highly modded 302v8's don't need more than a 650, and that's pushing 300+ hp

I found this link on FSP: http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/i...arburator.html Since I plan on building up the engine a bit, 650CFM shouldn't be too much, but I could go with 600.
Here's what i'd like to do: port the head and get larger valves and stronger springs, slightly larger camshaft, Offenhauser intake, 600CFM Holley 4bbl, EFI headers for a 2.25" catless true dual exhaust with glasspacks(not sure what size, probably 18"). With that, rear disk conversion, 3.73 trac-loc, aluminum driveshaft, and heavy duty shocks/springs. It'll probably be 5 years before I get all this stuff(if I even get the truck), but it should move pretty well with all that.

How fast are you planning to run the engine? Keep in mind that the rotating mass is going to be fairly heavy and the stroke is almost 4" long.

Actually, after researching some more, a 500CFM carb would be more ideal. I'm not looking to make a drag machine, but I do tend to push engines to their limits.

There's a "bucket" that runs at the local dragstrip with a 300 I6 in it, dual quads on it, big twin headers, open, and it runs 10's on motor.

With all the mods I mentioned, i'd hope to be in the 16's, although since I don't know what these trucks run stock, i'm just guessing. Also I didn't mention that the truck is a manual(most likely 4 speed, I haven't seen it yet) and 2WD.

Do you have any kind of a general idea of how fast he turns the engine?

                  I'm thinking 5,500 to 6,000.
