Swapping out to a mustang HO or LSC (to retain cruise control) computer is the easiest and depending who you buy the ECM from a cheap part of the swap.
i have a mustang tb but it looks different than the ones ive seen on the web, it has no tv cable lever thing and its made by holly, im wondering if i should get a new one. if anyone has an HO tb, let me know, thanks alot!!!
Even the use of a HO throttle body still requires a tiny bit of fabrication. The throttle/TV arm must be removed from your stock TB and put on the HO TB. Plus your stock EGR spacer must be bored out to HO dimensions.
Using a aftermarket TB bigger than the HO version is pointless because the restriction moves from it being the TB itself to the EGR spacer that can not be bored any larger than the HO TB dimension. But if you manage to find the elusive lightning EGR spacer the restriction then moves to the upper intake opening.
You wont be sorry if you decide to go for a full HO swap. you are going to do 90% of the same work and ony gain 60-75% of the potential HP.
hmmm, thats crazy, i dont know what that tick noise is, i guess ill just have to see if it gets any worse. and for the HO conversion, ive decided to only do the intake tb bored egr, headers and 3.55 gears. so if any of u guys can sell me an HO tb, 3.55 gears and a trac-lok unit, that would be great cuz thats all i need to get to complete my part gathering! message me if u have any of those things to sell me asap!
Justin, I'd suggest you just do the full convo...I'm pretty sure you wont be happy if you do not do the cam/heads/injectors.
I have an HO intake and headers/duals on my Merc...If I didn't have the 3.55's there wouldn't be a ton of difference over stock.
with those mods alone, I'm prolly only cranking about 175hp instead of the 150hp stock.
The HO convo will give you around 215hp.
adding 1.7 roller rockers to that would put you around 225-230ish.
with those 1 5/8" shorty headers/duals, you could crank somewhere around 235-240ish.
If you do not do the HO convo, you will prolly run about mid 16s at best with the 3.55s in the 1/4 mile.
with 2.73s, I'd suspect low 18s at best.
idk tho man, i dont want to get that much hp cuz im not sure my tranny will handle it so well. plus i dont drag or nothin, i just like to peel out and shit, u know. im thinkin the 3.55s with hesders and a good exhaust system, and smog pump removed, this will put me around 170 hp and a whole lotta pickup.
my LOPO motor peeled really easily because of the torque cam and 3.55 gears (all stock). After the HO conversion it still peels, but the front end doesn't fly up as much and the power is smoother. I say put in the 3.55's and see how you like it. then do headers/duals. see how you like it, then on from there.
If you decide to do the whole HO conversion on your own, expect that your car will be off the road for 6 months. I started in late sept and thought for SURE I'd finish before january....ended up being mid-March before it was all done, due to tuning, fixing newbie engine building mistakes I made, taking it to a shop because I didn't mark the right tooth of the distributor.

hmmmmm, now thats good advice my man, im puttin in my shift kit and adjusting my tv cable next week, then ill put my 3.55s in, then ill get my exhaust built, sounds like a good idea to me! but what about the smog pump, my exhaust wont have any cats so can the smog pump stay on or does it have to come off. i heard u gain hp if u take it off, but how much?
The HP gain is probably pretty negligable as those things turn pretty easy, but if you ask me it's worth getting rid of it just to free up space in your engine bay. Take a gander at my Cardomain page for the CV and look at the engine shots before and after I removed the AC and air pump. BIG difference.
That said, if you live somewhere where you need to pass a strict visual inspection they'll most likely get on your case about it not being there, so just keep that in mind.

Yeah, it can stay on. Doesn't really matter whether it's there or not. You'll want to remove the air lines that go to the cats though. 5-10 minutes with a pipe cutter or a hacksaw and that crap will be out of your way.
