    Fuel pump....

Well, I have finally narrowed the fuel pump problem on my 84 down to the frame rail fuel pump....
Got a new one today from the junk yard... it looks brand new... other than some minor dust. (They have a warranty at the junk yard I go to... in case it doesn't work...) Everything else around the pump is dirty, with alot of dirt, oil, grease etc... So I think it was pretty new before the car was sent to the junk yard. I'm going to try to get it changed out either tommorow or thursday... Along with a new fuel filter, while i'm at it.....
I remembered the fuel pump was getting pretty noisy right before it quit working... So I am guessing it went bad... I think that it may be the reason that the car was running rough on and off.... (From the pump "surging" before it went out) I am hoping that MAYBE it will clear up some of the rough idle, until I can get what I need to switch it over to a four barrel....

Worked on the 84 today... got the old pump out, and when I dropped the fuel pump.... there was a THIRD wire going to the fuel pump, "Spliced" into the ground wire.... I was like what the f***???? So I look it over, and turns out the idiot that had the car before spliced a ground wire onto the original with one of those blue clamp on wire splices... and they are notorious for going bad... and since it is under the car where it gets wet... Guess it lost the ground somewhere.... So he "rigged" a fix to get the car running again.... I figure this may be what caused the problem... So I will be redoing that and fixing it right this time.... with terminals and shrink tubing... not electrical tape like someone used on this "fix".... And put the new pump in I got... so it should be set....

I will have to fix that tommorow, since I ran out of light today... and I want all of the gas I spilled to evaporate before I start messing with anything electrical! Guess I'll get a fuel filter at work tommorow too, since I am under there..... (Forgot to pick one up)
