      I'll give my 2 cents...

Don't straightpipe it, and don't gut your mufflers or cats. It'll sound like an 80's Ford truck straight off the farm. It'll be loud, but you'll want more of a tone. Loudness gets attention, but tone gets looks.

Glasspacks are inexpensive, straight-through mufflers. $25 apiece at your local auto-parts store. They'll give it a deep grumble, nothing obnoxious. They will NOT be loud, but they will give it a more aggresive tone.

For about $50 extra, if you're willing to give it MORE of a grumble, pick up a set of echo chambers. They're the chrome tips that have a 3.5" outlet or so, and are about a foot long. They'll really deepen the tone too. I have a set on mine in my sig. pic, but they've been since removed.

So to shorten things up... get glasspacks to replace the factory mufflers, and if you would like to spend a little more, get echo chambers installed too. Great bang for the buck, with an aggresive tone to boot.

Murph, that was my original idea. Glasspacks and some nice tips. I dunno I may end up doing the header and H pipe swap sooner then later, get some decent mufflers and have the exhaust exit infront of the rear tires.

Infront of the rear wheels would be badass... I've considered it, but I don't think mine could pull it off, lol.

If you do that tho, use the echo chambers too.

Heres my car with mustang shorties and true duals, but I have a cat on both sides and Flowmaster 40-series mufflers

Same setup, full throttle drive-by. Still kinda sounds blatty, but I still have a lopo cam and heads on it.

And heres the stock single exhaust with a flowmaster 40-series in place of the stock muffler turned down infront of the rear axle. I wouldnt reccommend turndowns though cause the resonation in the interior will drive you crazy

Imo, These cars really do sound quite crappy with straight pipes on a stock engine, blatty and nasty. Sorry I dont have a vid. My flowmasters were around $75 each canadian brand new, and I'm sure there are cheaper mufflers around that will sound good too. The exhaust shop wouldnt do a side exit exhaust system for me because they are considered illegal here on cars.

An 89 MGM that I picked up as a parts car recently had straight pipes on it. I didn't look too closely (it was just a parts car and it was trashed), so I dunno whether it was the stock 2" pipes and I don't even know whether it had cats on it, but there was nothing under the car so far as I could see.

But it definitely sounded like ass. And I got a nasty headache from it after awhile at cruising speed. Very loud drone.

(Granted, the headache might have been from all the smoke in the cabin the one time I drove it....)

Since we're thread diggin here, I'll add my two cents on exhaust.

My '82 is loud as hell with Walker Glasspacks and no cats. Somewhat blatty outside the car but still not as bad as a SBC.

I had the exhaust open after the cats on the wagon for a while (still all 4 cats in place). It sounded good. Not obnoxiously loud and not blatty.
